Im 99.9999% sure its a V4, looks nice though
I agree its a 98 and the Version 4 ran from Sep 97 to Aug 98, the version 5 was from Sep 98 to Aug 99 and has the newer front bumper.

Leon know's best Andy. It's an early V5 with the previous style bumper - I promise you I'll send you a mars bar if you can proove me wrong

Or look at the coil pack, if its in the center front of the engine its a V4, if its slightly off to the right its a V5...is that a standard size mars bar or a King size
Just a quick edit to say, Ive had a look around and there never was a V5 V-limited only a Type RA STi Version 3 V-Limited and a Type RA STi Version 4 V-Limited, the Sti5 was just know as Type RA STi Version 5 Limited.
If its got the older style dash its a V3 and if its got the newer style dash its a V4 but which ever its still a nice car.
If you also look at the model number...if its GC8E*** its a 4, if its GC8F*** its a 5.

does it matter? chaps got a nice looking car at end of day!
I've never heard anyone refer to an impreza of that look as a version 5. If it is a v5 then it changes the way I've allways looked at different models of Impreza. I like to be properly educated on cars, I'm therefore interested to hear what makes it a v5. If a friend of mine had pointed that car out to me on the road I'd say "nice car, version 4, looks like a wrx ra, (not sti?), sti 6 rear spolier, needs some Volks "
So you see what I'm saying, I'm wrongly assuming it's a v4 like others. So no harm in wanting to get it right.

I wouldn't even had mentioned it, if you look back through the thread it was JTaylor who came onto it out of the blue saying it was a v5 and others dissagreed. I just agreed with them If it was my car I posted up I'd be a bit confused about someone telling people what it was (or wasn't) I was waiting for JTaylor's info on it (as he was offering people wagers) I presumed it was something away from the norm, I wasn't being pedantic or slating anyone/anything.
Anyway..
Yes it's a nice car, no issue with that. I'd like a 3 door Impreza myself (only one to really have these days)
leonpoole, do the RA's have an adjustable centre diff mate? what sort of spec do you have (ie elec windows, air-con etc?, or os it just the early RA's that have luxuries as extras?)

Yes, the glx had 14" alloys (admittedly an option), and the Ghia went the whole hog with 16" alloys (it had cruise control, 10cd multichanger, leather and heated seats and climate control aswell!!!).

wheather someone is trying to prove to him it isnt a Version 5 isnt exactly putting his car down. Im sure i wouldnt be let down by having a version 4 over a version 5 as they are both stunning cars.
I myself have a MY99 Sti version 5
