I think this is Crystal Grey,trouble is,it looks nowt like that in the flesh

Ok, it is all becoming clear now. I originally thought that Crystal Grey Metallic was in fact a sort of dark silver paint that is randomly varied at the factory so that any individual car is all the same colour, but no two cars are ever the same. This makes buying touch-up paint very difficult, but ensures that everybody with such a car gets their own unique version of CGM.

However, most people don't realise the big breakthrough that has been made here is that the paint isn't really paint at all. Subaru have generally been pretty hopeless at paint and finally with CGM they have replaced the actual paint with a picture of some paint. Due to limitations with the printer they use to print it on the cars the end result varies a bit, sometimes one of the printer cartridges runs out or the car feed gets stuck and it isn't printed at all - I think that's what happened to the unprinted car on the left in that Nasioc link.

Mine is CGM, but it is still at Litchfield's - so I still don't know what colour I'll end up with...
