heyup gary

nice and clean lap in the sti mate, you've certainly mastered that track now compared to when we went in easter.

What tyres you got on, still with the toyos ??

Hey Guys,

New member here. Nice vids, Gutmann Pug. That is one amazing track, innit?

I got a question, though. What landmarks are you using to decide when to start and stop your stopwatch to get the laptime? When guys go for the lap record, do they close the track to campervans and just keep going round, or do they have to stop at the toll gate like everyone else?

I just wanna see how your laptime compares to guys like the dude in the Carrera GT who just broke the lap record for a production car. Of course, it looks quick enough, especially as you seemed to pass a lot of people.

Thanks,

BB

Aha, now I understand. So, roughly how many seconds would you need to add to your time to get a representative time for the complete lap, if it was possible to get one?

Cheers,

BB

Ah yes, the laxative effects of the Nordschleife are amazing. It's just as well they have good toilet facilities in the car park...

I would say from gantry to bridge would take another 20 - 30 seconds depending on the car. Not 100% sure though to be honest

have a look on his site www.ringmini.de i think it is . he also has a gsxr go kart video which is mad

Great lap mate. I'm hopefully going out to the 'ring next year.

One question though....

Why o why does nobody show a lap from the very start to the very end? What happens going down the straight? When do you come off the lap?

Looks good though

The entrance/exit is half way along the straight mate, there's a temporary chicane where you come off/come on. most people use what straight ther is to warm down after their lap. as soon as you come off you are almost imediately in the car park.

Exclamation Word to the wise

Just remember this fellas if you're considering the ring.
Any damage to the track is charged at a cost of £100 per metre!

A friend reliably informed me after coming off his bike there and tearing up the tarmac. The bill was quite outrageous.

Love to have a go tho, might have to take off the prodrive alloys first, bit expensive to replace.

Not sure matey, it was the first time he'd been but intends to insure next time just in case. I'll get him to ask the question. Bit harsh if not don't you think?

Gutmann pug, I was parked a couple of cars away from you when you came in, nice place to hide your camara . I had been over there for 9 days in total this time, you also took my mate out who owns the MK 1 Escort. I did not know it was you until I got back home It,s a great place, even better during the mid-week when it is nearly empty.

Excellent video!

>Ring mini does me
I like the evil little laugh you do the first time the mini steps sideways.

Will be going there next year and I cant wait.

Wheelie_sti - Did I see your car at the Red Lion Chesterfield this summer? Mad looking beastie with stickers on it? I am sure I remember seeing 'wheelie sti' on the window, kind of stuck in my head.

Dave

MADDOG .......The MK1 was the best car there all weekend IMHO

You dont see the whole lap coming off etc as videoing isnt allowed so it has to be done covertly.

As for insurance the 'ring' is actually a german toll road so unless your insurer specifically says the 'ring' is not covered then in theory you are insured to drive it. I have track cover all the same though. That is why it is so important to overtake only on the left as if you crash into another car and have done so whilst breaking the rules (therefore the law) then your in hot water with the local police.

Thanks for the comments on the vids, I enjoy making them and good comments are always well received.

Of course I apologise to the pureists who dont like videoing etc, but i would never show detremental footage of crashes etc ..

What sort of clamp are you using? And what happens if a marshal sees you on the track? I will be going next summer come hell or high water and would like to video myself going round the track.

Who did you get that through? I dont want to rely on my insurer if anything goes wrong.

Ubik ...........I use a specialised piece of equipment know as the passenger seat ...... the camera wedges nicely in the hole in the passenger seat, perfick. I use a good old trusty jumper chucked over the seat to stop the marshals seeing it ........

On a lot of the movies I have seen theres the odd car off to the left side near the start, they must all be taking the jumpers off too hehehe.

Thanks for the insurance note, I will get that sorted out when I go.

Cars tend to wait as they get out of the cones..they are usually waiting for their mates or perhaps they have seen a carrera GT about to come through the barrier and think they will have a pop at it.

Or to have a look at the 'ring' map and decide which corner to spin on this time.
