Pics of my damaged subaru
#1
Just thought i`d post some pics of my car, happened just before xmas on greasy wet roads after going round bend, back end went and mounted curb and collided with sign post (was not even speeding)
Gutted but the main thing is nobody was injured.
Still waiting for insurance engineer to asses damage but repair centre reckon it will be wrote off.
The hire car Iwas giving off my insurance(Seat Leon 1.9TDI)
not bad motors either(approx 450-500 miles to the tank)

Believe what you want john but i was not speeding.
Probably doing 35-40mph.
Question to anyone, What sort of impact does it take for airbags to go off. Wondered if anybody else experienced airbags failing on impact. I know its not totally smashed up but i`d have thought it would have been enough. Just thought i`d bring this up incase there is a safety issue on subaru`s and worth getting them checked out for yours and others safety.

i think it depends on the direction of impact to if airbags go off, as they can do more damage to passengers if tey go off in certain situations.
ie if the main force of momentum was from the side it would not be good for the front airbags to deploy.

You wanna try being in a scoob and it ending up like this.
Was not a nice experience, but felt so very safe in the car when it happened. I was over taking a guy in a MX5 on a quiet country road (national speed limit) when he decided to swerve right in front of me as i was overtaking him. I had my foot down in 4th doin about 70, he was doin about 50, and then, all of a sudden i went from 70 to 0 in a matter of a couple of seconds. It was a very drastic and horrible way to end the life of my car, but it didn't end mine. Thankyou to the scoob. I felt so very safe, and jumped out of car after it happened and helped the nitwit out of his ex-MX5.
This took place last May and still hasn't been settled by the insurance. But needless to say within a month i got my next scoob and have so much confidance in its ability and safety.
Keep safe...

Sorry to hear about your car mate,
I had exactly the same thing happen to me the week before christmas only i hit a tree instead of a sign post.
Unfortunately i dont think i will be able to get insured on another one for a couple of years, very gutted indeed.
Hopefully you will have better luck than me when it comes to your next car.

actually the speed of the crash must have been very low - as neither airbag was deployed!

Sorry to see your car in a sad state.
I had a similar accident with my 2.5RS (USDM Impreza ) here in New York. I was going around a bend at about 35mph, and the backend came out and i went diagonally into a guardrail, actually hit the same place you did. I bounced off the guardrail and hit the quater panel too. Cost of damage was $9500 USD, Though no suspension damage occured.
I don't know how it works in the UK, but if you can buy your damaged cars back from the insurance companies, you could look into parting out bits to us US boys(the seats, steering wheels, and so on) Though, shipping would be quite a pain. Second thought, maybe I'll just hop a jet to the UK and scavenge the wrecked yards...
