Bet peeling that old leather off was abit hair raising, if the Momo didn't fit you'd be left with a nude handbrake

Is there no way to remove that rubber crap from the hole where the handbrake comes out and simply attach the gaiter around the hole like it is on most cars? Would look much nicer and more of the gaiter would be on show.
