A few cars I was running around in....
#1
I was in the Classic Car Club last year and here's a few of the cars I had out over the year. Made some interesting comparisons with the Scoob.
Guess which one I fell in love with and am going to buy an example of later this year?
I am not associated with the Car Club in any way, etc, etc

Correct it is a Jalpa. About 30-odd in the country I think and I'm not surprised cos its a dog!
I will, of course, be looking for a Caterham 7! That stupid thing was a carb-fed 1600cc vauxhall engine with a live rear axle and I took it to Wales and I had the best laugh and the best drive of my life.
Will be scouring for a Vauxhall 2.0 Caterham later in the year or might think about entering the Caterham Academy for 2002.
Elise did nothing for me compared to the Caterham. Engine sounded like a bag of nails and whilst the grip levels are very high I never learnt to trust it in the few days I had with it.

Marc,
wow
I have had a look at the classic car club website and I am seriously impressed...
Two things they don't mention are
1. How much is the insurance excess ?
2. The membership levels have points and jokers. Whats a joker ?
Also, did you find that you had trouble getting the car that you wanted when you wanted it ?
Hmmm, looks like I have to add and extra £3000 to the budget for moving to London next year ...
Andrew.
MY99 + SS backbox.

Insurance excess increases with the grade of cars and I think varies between £200 for the Fiat 500 to £2000 for the Ferrari. You can pay about £150 at the start of the year to halve the excesses which I did, but then I didn't need it in the end anyway as I got each car back safely.
The joker allows you to book any car on any date and you get two. The day I joined I booked the Ferrari for my birthday Otherwise you can only book cars exactly one month in advance.
Everyone uses their jokers on the top cars - Ferrari, Aston Martin, etc, so getting hold of the other cars is reasonably easy as long as you book them exactly a month ahead of when you want them. If you ring up on Monday and ask what is available for the following weekend you're gonna have a limited choice.
I'd say I got what I wanted 75% of the time. A few times cars went wrong and weren't available which was annoying but its going to happen - these cars are on the road almost every day.
The best thing is that there is no mileage limits - I did over 1,000 miles in the Ferrari which seems to be more than most owners manage

When you're in London pop along and have a chat with them - they're all car enthusiasts there.
David Kavanagh is the guy that started it and he's now set up a Supercar equivalent with Damon Hill. £20k annual membership with F40, XJ220, Diablo etc on the books!!
