Home made P1 style mudflaps
#1
Hello all,
there should be some pictures of my home made out of upvc mudflaps on here. Similar to a style now sold by Prodrive.
See general questions forum for details of how to make them.
Cheers MTR

BTW, is that a MY01/02 Impreza MTR? The material I have is about 2mm thick and I cannot fasten it to the fender lip with the OEM push clips...they will not reach through the material and into the sheet metal. Looking around for options at the moment...will hopefully turn something up at the local hardware store.

TampaRex,
The flaps were designed for the MY00, but I have also manufactured them for the MY01 (Bug Eye), and both sets are available from Robinsons.
The dimensions quoted are for the MY00 style.
For attaching them, you could try using the original clips, but remove the centre pin, and replace it with a suitably sized house rawl plug.
The plastic things that you put in house walls when you want to screw a shelve up etc.
The rawl plug will open up the original clip, and retain it to the car body, then simply screw the flaps to the car with self tappers into the rawl plugs.
The holes in the flaps will need to be smaller than the sizes I originally specified, probably 1/8" diameter is all you will need.
And fit large headed self tappers, or fit stainless washers, to spread the load and stop the flaps cracking.
Using this method, you do not actually screw the self tapper into the steel of the body, so no corrosion problems.
I initially did this, then realised I could utilise the original clips, as my material was only about approx 1mm thick.

I'm totally new to this board and I see that this is a dated thread, but would anyone be so kind as to point me to the "how-to" on these "filler" flaps? Just picked up some new wheels/tires and the 225's on spitting debris up the side of the car. I think these would be perfect, since the car will only be street driven. TIA for any help!

Thanks Nathan! It's gloomy and hazy today, but we've been in the 80s(degF, of course ) the past week. Yeah, I like it here. Can't stand the snow and generally detest the cold, so it's here or California for me. Let's just say that I might never live long enough to afford to live in California. <shrug>

80.F Nice. It was just over 100 on St.Petes Beach on 4th July.
Would miss the snow, although we rarely get it in the south of England anymore.
Which Scoob have you got ?

They are available from Robinsons of Rochdale Subaru Dealers, Greater Manchester, England Tel 01706 716655.
I don't know what the international dialling code for the UK is though.
They will post them, at least they do in the UK.
Cheers MTR

Thanks MTR! I'm actually working on a little DIY idea of my own. Similar to what you've done, but with a little more lateral area. If I can find appropriate clips/fasteners, will post some pics here or on I-Club.
Nathan - Driving a MY02 WRBP WRX. Not too many mods yet, only had the car a month, but planning on cosmetic stuff for now with a big power upgrade next year or in '03. Can you say Cobb Tuning? I can.

I bought a set for my MY01 from Robinsons
And all day yesterday I tried several methods of attachment
I did have a set of clips from an original set of sport flaps all to no avail
But just reading the above note I popped out and realised if you remove the screw from the clip and then screw in a self tapper
BOBs your uncle
So thats nexts weekend little project booked in now
What a wonderful place this BBS is
