Today I installed a new data display system that has just come on the market for the Impreza. More information can be found at http://www.psi3.co.uk

Thread discusing this unit is at http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...hreadid=141885

It has 3 main functions.

Data Display in real time and peak value storage for engine parameters.
Alarm triggers to warn of out of parameter values, such as coolant temperature too high.
Fault code indication/ECU reset

The unit plugs directly into the ECU monitor port under the steering column dash area, so there is no cutting of wires, finding a power feed etc, it takes just a few minutes to install (once you have worked out how the console panel comes off ). There are extra connections on the rear for sensor inputs, WI drive outputs, Shift light output etc.

You can also programme this unit to trigger a shift light, water injection/IC Spray or Nitrous. All the triggers/alarm levels are user configured.

Future updates include data logging output plus inputs from non ECU monitored sensors such as oil pressure and temperature. The unit came on the market just this week so I am running the first production version. Software updates will be available as the product matures.

Here are some pictures showing the install in my Japanese spec double din console, you can also buy the unit in pod mount and standalone formats.

Installing the unit

Display showing Boost Pressure (BP), Road Speed (RS), Coolant temp (CT), Battery Volts (BV), Injector Duration (ID), Ignition advance (IG), Knock Correction (KC), Throttle Position (TP), Engine Speed (ES),

Peak boost/current boost

Peak coolant temp/Current coolant temp

Peak RPM/current RPM

Shift light (also doubles as the out of parameter alarm indicator)

Alarm code flashes on screen

Setting my over boost alarm value

Setting my coolant over temperature alarm

Setting the low voltage alarm (there is a high voltage alarm also)

Customised to my car

Installed in my Double Din STi facia

The main reason I wanted this Display was to give me some alarms and readings of the engine without the need for lots of gauges and associated wires, pipes etc. I also wanted something that would tell me what the fault was should a sensor go down. Driving over to the nurburgring so often leaves me a little isolated, at least now I have the fault codes to work out what has gone wrong, plus the option to quickly try an ECU reset. I think it’s very neat and unobtrusive. The bonus is the shift light function and ability to install oil temp/pressure sensors at a later date without the need for dials. I like the fact I can programme the alarm limits and then forget about them, if there is a problem the shift light just starts flashing at me, then I can see the alarm displayed on the unit.

So far so good.

It will. they do a version that fits in a genuine Subaru pod, that replaces the small tray on the top centre of your dashboard.

Am I right in thinking this only works if you still retain the cars Subaru ECU? Would it work with say a LINK ECU

I dont know Paul, maybe the answer is in the technical thread i link to? I wont ever be changing my ECU so it's not an issue for me.

yep, thats a defi light. It needed a resister in the LED circuit board to drop the LED suply from 12V to 5V, Simon sorted that for me although it would have been a 5 minute job for me too.

Piers, it is a Defi BUT we have to modify them to ensure they work correctly.

John, I think we saw you arriving as we left Psi3.

I'll be documenting the fitment of my "Classic" Impreza pod-mount tomorrow, which will be used as the basis for a PDF download from the website.

BTW - We actually beat you into running a production unit by 5 minutes. (Although the wiring was looped over my cup-holder and the unit was in Fizz's lap!). I was praying he didn't do an ECU reset whilst storming back up the M5...

Any chance we can use some of these photos on the www.psi3.co.uk website if required? (Complete with credit notice, of course!).

The website will soon be updated with a gallery of images to display the different unit types, button colours, shift light, wiring, plug connectors, etc.

Congratulations must go the Psi3 crew, and the release of the first of many products which will be a huge success.

fantastic (thanks for the quick reply in stereo) - does it light only on a warning from a single parameter or when any warning level for all the monitored items is reached? i.e is it set so it only lights say for overboost or does it light when any max parameter is breahed? Is it easy to do, a no cost option?

Piers LoFi

Edited to say i think i see this answered in Johns original post

John well impressed with that, just wish that the old bones out there could have more to display from SECS on the early ecu's Pre06 etc I know that they can do some of the information but not as good as the newer SECS with the select monitor

Talking

help yourself to the photos Squizz.

Were you in the nice looking bugeye or the classic? I got two flashes within 2 minutes. LOL

The light is trigered by any of the alarm limits being reached, you get a flashing display on the unit of the alarm that has been breached.

John,
Looking good

PCB(Simon) or Squizz,
I seem to remember(squizz knows what Iam like)that...

You did a housing to replace the clock in the MY01>

But piggyback PPP'd ECU's boost Pressure is not be diplayed correctly unless an addition analogue pressure switch is fitted. But all other function work But this isn't the case with the latter Prodrive EcuTek programmed PPP's of STi7 and STi8's IIRC ??

Hi Tony, yes we do a unit that replaces the clock pod for your car ( our model no. S1004 )
The boost does read correct on the new re-flash type PPP.
