2002 was a very eventful year, some of the highlights were the great times i had with my Impreza. I bought the car in June and have put 17,000 miles on it so far, it hasnt missed a beat, be it on the Nurburgring at 155MPH, driving through a welsh forest on a rally, competing and winning in the 10 of the best at elvington, going sideways at bedford at 120MPH, going sideways at 40MPH at Dono or just taking me to work every day.
What an awesome car. Here is to 2003 and much more of the same.

Magnificent John!
Truly, truly magnificent
Makes me feel even better that I own one too!
Took me an age to download all the pics, but it was well worth the wait...
Glad to see lots of the standard bits still on it too, unless all the mods are hiding of course!!!
P.S. how the hell do you keep that engine bay looking do sparkly? That must take hours in its own right!
Happy new year...

John, nice pics, sorry about the quality of mine (5th one down) had difficulty keeping with you from the distance you were made to spectate from
Your car, along with a couple of others, certainly sticks with me from 2002. I can still picture following you around the Welsh countryside for the Rally. Very enjoyable
Looking forward to seeing it again.

Thanks chaps, the engine bay takes about 20 minutes to get looking like that, plus a bit of help from the wax wizard. It looked a mess when I bought the car, looks mint now though!
The car is standard except for, LedaB coilovers, AP Racing 330mm disks and 4 pots, Braided brake hoses, Mintex M1153 and M1155 pads, Bump Steer mod, ALK, Rear Cusco strut brace, 17” Alloys, scoobymania backbox. I have concentrated on the things that make it go quickly on track yet reliable for daily driving, so the engine is still standard spec 280BHP.
I dropped the 5th gear ratio during the year too, it had the V-Ltd overdrive 5th compared to the RA 1st to 4th and it ruined the way the car drove cross country and on track, it was only better for motorway cruising and I don’t do a lot of that. This year I have been through 3 sets of tyres, all part worn for track use, plus I have my road set which I now have to replace due to damaging them on a raised manhole cover, those still look brand new being used just for commuting and the odd weekend run on a rally somewhere or cruise to the ring.
I’ll see if I can find a better res picture of the Karousel shot.
I definitely prefer the STi to the Golf TDi Scott, but that weekend in catalunya is one of the year’s highlights, great fun spectating and trying to follow a bunch of Imprezas in an oil burner.
It’s unlikely you will see the sausage car, aka the escort cosworth forest rally car, out in the woods this year, Simon is getting married and taking a year out. He had the car up for sale just before Xmass too, so that may be the end of that for good, which will be a great shame. I should be more busy with the Esprit race car though, that blew it’s 5 litre engine early last year so Simon decided to go radical and build the first ever 6 litre Rover V8, that coming together nicely now, should be pushing 600BHP with all the kit on that. The car is having lots of changes up front to cope with that too, with Huge GroupC brakes and wheels being grafted on, it should be mentally fast.
Bathurst, hmmmmm, a mate of mine drove in that race last year, maybe it’s time I saw what ausie V8’s have to offer.
Thanks for taking the picture Steve, that one makes me laugh, as although its pretty blurred, you can still see the car is on 2 wheels at most, maybe one, that was a fun day at Elvington and earned me a free Cusco strut brace and big trophy, which was nice.
The RAC was good fun, it was good to have you along for a few days.

Some quality pics there John. A very good advertisement for wax wizard, especially the engine bay ones.
I think Subaru should pay you sponsorship for the great image you give the car. You are the Colin McRae of Scoobynet!
Ive only been on scoobynet since Jan but in that time Ive read most if not all of your threads. Love ur pics, vids and experiences. Id rate you as the best contributor to this forum by a long shot.
Cheers and a happy 2003!
Simon.

thanks chaps.
My technique was to send an email to mark underwood and get him to come and sort my car out it was a complete tip before he got his hands on it.
Mark can supply all the cleansers etc if you want to do this yourself.
his contact info is in this thread http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...hreadid=163125

Jamie, you know the answer to that one, the second you land at heathrow your getting behind the wheel Now hurry up about it!
I find it quite funny that the person who moderates drivetrain has probably got the most standard engine setup on the BBS.
I am pretty sure you were in the car with those shots Andy, those were taken by ChrisB, of Gilles Panizzi donut fame.
I am starting to realise why my rear tyres wear out with diaganol scratches on them now, they are never going in a straight line.
The plaque is the Version Limited number. Mine is #171

Well said!!!!!
Car control is the KEY!!!!!
Only having my scooby for a few months, getting use to it is taking some time. I could shift in my old FWD GTI's etc. but my WRX has scared me a few times! I agree on trying to use what power i have by upgrading the brakes (got to be worth 20-30bhp) better/uprated SUS etc....
Anyway back to the pics THERE COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

top tip for reliability?
Use good quality oil. (15/50 motul or 10/60 castrol RS)
Change the oil after every track day.
Use SUL plus OB.
Leave the panel filter alone if you use the factory MAF sensor.
Dont mess with the engine spec unless you are doing it properly.
Replace the gearbox oil every 12,000 miles if you have a DCCD.
Service the car on schedule.
Let it warm up properly.
Let it cool down properly.
Dont rag it to death on track, keep the runs to a sensible length then let it cool down before another run, heat soak is the killer.
Dont sit there at max revs in a high gear for a long time, taking it to 155MPH is OK, holding it there under load is not.
Treat the car with respect and learn to drive it properly and it will not be the animal a lot of people seem to think these cars are. They are far better driving machines than a P1 or UK spec Impreza, you just need to understand how to use them and how to get the best out of the DCCD.
