Exclamation

Taken me a week to upload but these pics show the result of a torrential downpour shortly after the British GT race at Oulton Park started last weekend with all the cars on slicks. As the cars came over Hilltop they aquaplaned on the torrents of water and lost control sliding into one another at the Knickerbrook chicane. Seven cars were wrecked Fortunately none of the drivers were injured and the one marshall that was hit suffered cuts, bruises and shock but is ok.

Yowzer. Bet that caused a few headaches in the paddock......

Amusingly, I went to see the Touring Cars (when it was good..) many years ago at Oulton, and on one lap the works Mondeo came down towards the chicane, the engine blew, and it pulled off next to the lake. Next lap, the second works Mondeo comes down the straight, engine blows and it pulls off and parks next to the other one! Not a good day for Ford that day.....

If the touring cars had stayed as it was, i think there's a chance there'd have been a Scooby team, probably Prodrive run. Shame really.

Nothing a hammer and a bit of selotape will not fix.

Beef, no AWD in touring cars mate, and as a lot of Subaru budget goes on rallying, I doubt a team would ever have been created.

I thought the Audi Quatrros used to be in BTCC - or have they banned AWD since they dominated so easily?

I think they banned AWD in the BTCC after 94/95 ish Audi ran a 2WD A4 for the next couple of years but it wasn't as good

Have to say the Touring Car Championship is a lot better now. The racing over the weekend at Brands Hatch was very good. With MG coming through and Honda, they are giving Vauxhall a run for their money. You now have genuine competition and racing - something that F1 could learn.

The new format is good, i just think they could run it as it is, but with another higher class, like the old cars. It would be up to teams if they wanted to enter. Just think it would be wicked to see cars like the new mondeo, vectra, 3 series, new A4 et al racing again. Oh, and Audi did run AWD for 2 years, then onto FWD for 1 year. They were stopped from using it because it was too damn good.

Thumbs up

beef - I remember the good old days of BTCC - I was an avid fan from 1990 to about 1996 then it started going pear shaped.

Went to most of the Oulton Park races from 92 to 96. Favourite was when the Omega Carina's were racing - Rouse and Hoy. Also remember Cleland going off at Oulton right in front of us under the bridge - superb
