Just thought I'd show you all some pictures of our new APS High Output Exhaust system on our STI UK.

We are now bringing all the APS equipment and packages in now from Australia and the exhaust was one of the first things to go on the car (much more to follow). The exhaust system is mandrel bent 304 stainless steel and includes a cast turbo outlet, a sports cat and 3" piping all the way to the back box.

Every bend and componant in the system is there for optimum performance and the initial impressions were very good as the turbo lag was significantly reduced and power lasts all the way through the rev range. Once all the APS kit is fitted I will publish power figures etc.

There will also be a decat version available very soon.

The system sounds very nice indeed, very civilised in traffic, yet when you put your foot down it really sounds very hard indeed!

I love it as it suits the car very well, looks excellent and here it is for all to see!:

FYI,

On 01 WRXs the basic 210kw kit produced 288hp and 280lb ft (at 3500 )

I agree with Jamie about the quality of the exhaust - it is perhaps the highest quality exhaust I've seen - the welding isn't as neat as the Blitz/HKS etc, but is still very good - as is the turbo outlet.

Will be interesting to see what the results are on the STIs.

Thanks Craig, the kits are amazing, Im not into throwing out figures picked from the air, but APS have just fitted the identiacal kit and optioins list to the exact same car as mine and have come up with some truly amazing figures!

Needless to say Im looking forward to this!

Id agree that the exhaust is the highest quality and most thought into design available. The welds are better throughout the system than a Blitz or HKS item but they do lack the tig welding on the tailpipe section, but as the APS is a completely different design this doesn't show or matter in the slightest.

My ear drums are certainly on holiday too having swapped the Blitz for this system!

Exactly, that's what I like about them too!

There may be a certain magazine thinking exactly the same thing in the coming months too!

Question

Jamie,

Got any dyno figures from APS that show a standard STi (7) vs the same car with the full system on it?

Cheers,

Matt

Some more goodies for you to feast your eyes on!

APS Blow Off Valves available for 97-02MY imprezas.

These are a dual vent design, so you get none of the idling problems often experienced with VTAs but you also get a nice whoosh when driving hard!

Jamie,

Make sure with these that they don't leak.

We had a few reports of these leaking and were fobbed off by APS saying it's not possible.

I think Bob Rawle did some tests so for more info it may be worth talking to him.

Thanks for the advice, I heard all about that and have been assured that the design has been re-engineered.

The BOV should be fitted with the the rubber grommit on the standard Dump Valve which sits on the recirc end and the kit is supplied with a new gasket and jubilee clip etc.

Looks like the Terminators' todger too!

I had a complete APS exhaust on my STi 5. Power figures on the rolling road (same day, same RR - P.Eng's) showed an increase of 19bhp at the flywheel. These really are excellent, quality kit. Nothing else was altered. The new system is supposed to be a bit quieter as well.

Jamie/Craig, yep they leak!
Cost me £150 and not even worth sticking my dcik into!
Infact don't even know where it is at present, hopefully punted way out into the cosmos.
If it does turn up, I may even send it back to APS, detailing where thet can stick it. Hell, I'll even go as far as too pay the postage to AUS!

Red face

Hi Jamie,
just thought I had better point out for clarity, that mine was/is the older model remote BOV, not the later attached BOV as indicated in your pictures above. You mentioned that the newer models have rubber seals. That would explain allot and suggests that the older models possibly relied to much upon manufacturing tolerance within the core?????

Cheers, Jacko.

Nice to see they've re-engineered the dv as on paper it sounded like a nice prospect.

bob, topcat and myself have all had contact with dave at aps on the subject, unfortunately the feedback was one of the following :-

1 - duff batch
2 - old style
3 - poor application/instllation

APS seemed to refuse to believe they leaked which was a rather disapointing attitude when so many had attempted to tell them otherwise, shame they couldnt have emailed us back and offered some exchange for the 'new improved' items rather than leaving us to purchase another manufacturers alternative.

Was kinda hoping that would be the case as it must be hard for aps to provide sensible support from so far away. So hopefully they will work with you to provide more (some!) support to uk customers.

So if we could just move onto the subject of silicone fmic hoses............
