Due to "recent events" I sold my Scooby, i was sad to see it go but times have changed I will still post on here as I think it's an excellent site (one of, if not the best for info & help).
Looking forward to putting this up against a few scoobys

Yes Carl i did get it from Terry,i've got to say the car was a dog when i got it i don't think he has a clue about Cosworth Westfields as i've had to spend lot's to get it going how i thought it should when i brought it but now it's fine just over heat's on track so a new rad's on it's way.Going to do the rest of this year on track day's then might do some sprints&hill climb's next year.

Daz,
Pic seems OK now - nice car! I bought one almost exactly the same myself last week - SEW, 2.0 VX engine and twin 45's, in the same nice, subtle, understated colour as Chris's
Sorry to hear about your trouble with the head gasket/cooling system that you describe on the WSCC bbs, hope you get it sorted soon and get to enjoy the rest of the summer. I'd offer to help if I knew how
Catflap, you might be interested to know that Maz came round to show me his new car (ie. your Scooby) this afternoon, and to go for a blat in my Westy. You could ask him whether he thought it was fast enough! I love the instantaneous, any-speed-in-any-gear response of the VX engine compared to the Scooby, but do suffer from lack of traction. Get some decent, squishy tyres and an LSD if you can.

chris -- interested to hear about the problems you had. I had assumed buying from Terry Nightingale to be a 'safe bet' with no further prep work required. Mail me offline if you don't want to post it here, or send me a link to the appropriate bit of the WSCC BBS (which I don't frequent).
Cheers.

Thanks for the comments all
Andy - As per the "scoobynet" I'm getting a lot of advice and these type of things are to be expected I suppose. From the replies that I got it may not be too expensive I was looking at spending the "beer tokens" on loads of carbonfibre (but there's always next month )
chris P1 - here you go mate

I thought that Andy meet that i had posted on the WSCC web site about my head gasket must be a common problem then, cost me over £700 to have the head skimmed and new wire ringed gasket fitted plus i also had all the hose's replaced as this is why i lost all the water in the first place they were rotten, never knew it had gone because my temp gauge wasn't working so i kept on driving until it stopped, and that was flat out at Rockinham
Daz you have to get a LSD i had mine fitted and it has transformed the cars handling, so much more traction coming out of corners and the dounuts you can do are wicked

Sorry guys, didn't want to confuse anyone. I was talking about Daz's VX engined car, which gives me some cause for concern since it's almost exactly the same as mine. Chris, sorry to hear about your trouble too, maybe it is just that 'one-off' cars are prone to this sort of thing without having a full manufacturer's test programme behind them
If it's any consolation, mine goes to a mechanic to have the speedo fixed this morning, then off to Pro-Tune next weekend to find out why it's drinking like a fish on a Friday night. Plus, it really could do with a 3D ignition system, and an LSD, and some new tyres, and...

Great stuff!
I'm in the process of looking and hopefully getting one very soon. I think I'm going to take the scoob off the road for a year and enjoy the potential Westie. I have found a 2.0 l Vauxhall 16v engine SEi all prepped and ready to do track days, cut off switches, FIA roll bar etc and will hopefully be looking at it very soon, with the help of some experts!

Do a search on the WSCC bbs for insurance companies - there are some that have a clue what a Westfield is, and some that don't
I'm with MSM, who seem to specialise in kit cars and were quite competitive. You could also try Footman James, Hill House Hammond or Osbournes. All quoted me around £300, which is pretty amazing given the car's performance and that my NCB is being used on the Scooby.

Just spent the evening flushing the system through and have purchased a new thermostat, If that doesn't work it might be a trip to Pro-tune.
Andy - The only other thing on the car that isn't working is my Speedo (weird eh) !! Let me know how you get on with yours.

Daz,
I took the car to a mechanic yesterday. The sensor for the speedo is the inductive type, and it's mounted on a bracket under the universal joint at the back of the gearbox. It gets a signal by picking up the shape of the joint itself - unusual, and pretty nasty IMHO - but common on this car I'm led to believe.
Anyway, on my car, the sensor had apparently been set too close to the joint and had come into contact with it, knocking it sideways. This meant that it was no longer pointing directly at the joint, and was lucky to pick up a signal at all. He straightened everything out and set the gap correctly (about 1.5mm, according to the Westfield factory), and it seems much better now. The VDO speedo just needs calibrating, now it's getting the right number of pulses, which I intend to do myself with the help of a GPS receiver.
I asked about the subject on the WSCC bbs here and found myself reading about a modification here that promised to fix the problem once and for all. It turned out (in my case, and for today at least) to be unnecessary, but I still have the required Hunter transducer sitting unused in a bag, and I might be open to offers for it if my car works OK without.
Good luck,
Andy.

I have warned people on these boards againsy buying from Terry Nightingale in the past.
I had an absolute shocker with him. In my opinion his work is overpriced and overrated and he is not a man of his word.
I can enlighten people on my story if they email me off line on preid@hodes.co.uk.

Dave - that's a good idea. Don't suppose you feel up to organising a meet, do you? Where are you located? I'm in south Bucks.
My car's a 'mere' 150bhp 2.0 VX, but it's nice to see that insurance shouldn't go up too much if I have it tweaked. 200bhp seems quite straightforward to achieve.
Mossman, out of those two I'd go with Footman James. I've seen a lot of negative comments about Flux. Personally I chose MSM because Dave Spragg (who, from what I can tell, is MSM!) seemed like a decent bloke who was genuinely interested in kit cars, and didn't ask me any stupid questions like 'has it been modified'

Hill House Hammond quoted me £221.00 For 3.5k miles or £243.00 for 6k miles. It is the first quote I've got, for that sort of money I don't think I'll bother calling anyone else
They don't use any NCB either (even though I've got over 6 years !!).

That's pretty good - all my quotes were around £300. It's still worth the price of a couple of phone calls to see if you can save a few quid, I reckon. Try imagining the price difference in beer, and ask if you'd pour it down the toilet
Given that my Scooby insurance is still well over £800 (with full NCB), I agree that it's tempting just to celebrate the fact that Westy insurance is cheap. Right now, it's making a great way for me to build up a second NCB for my future TVR...
