My BP5 Legacy Tuned by STI
Morning all. I'm a long time Scooby admirer, my dad historically owned a WR1 and a Litchfield T25 so always wanted that burble in my life. A few weeks ago I got rid of the German diesel borer and decided to spend some cash. I needed practicality so my choices were either a Forester STI, or a Legacy.
I spoke with a few well renowned Import companies who were exceptionally helpful however it quickly became apparent that the import route was going to be way out my price range and would take a lot longer than anticipated. So I started to look locally and found this 2006 Subaru Legacy Tuned by STI in Regal Blue for sale. Vehicle was imported in 2018 and had been in storage since late 2019. Inspection done, few minor issues rectified and payment was made. It made the trip back to Scotland flawlessly (bar a slight wheel vibration above 70).
The car has a couple of things I want to do to it in order to get it to my standard;
I did find some interesting additional extras the Japanese owner had installed;

The car has a couple of things I want to do to it in order to get it to my standard;
- Top dash needs refurbed (cracked heavily and has lots of Japanese electronic items sticking out)
- Steering wheel recovered in Alcantara
- Andy Forrest Remap (booked in at the end of the month)
- Replacement head unit to put it back to the original that would have come with the car (Kenwood/Comcat unit)
- A good proper detail
- Full Hunter Alignment (the STI booklet actually has toe/camber settings for all for wheels which is handy)
I did find some interesting additional extras the Japanese owner had installed;
- Auto windscreen wipers/headlights which seems to always think it is raining/nigh time.
- Japanese alarm system that randomly goes off when it gets scared.
- Cusco rear strut brace which needs a shine up.
- Tablet head unit which isn't great
- MB Quart sound system which sounds great but hasn't been installed properly.

Thanks for the comments guys, I'm working away at the moment, soon as I'm back I'll stick more pictures of it up.
I ordered a replacement 'Tuned by STI' badge yesterday as it has been fully de-badged.
Also ordered an Apexi panel filter for it before it goes in to see Me Forrest.

Thought I would upload some pictures after it was clayed and polished.
I also included a random picture of the auto wiper/lights which I have never seen before on another fourth gen Legacy.

Thank you for this makes me happy that there is a high chance this was dealer instal rather than "I'll watch YouTube and take a drill to the dash"
Just need to figure out why it always thinks it's raining and dark. I mean I know I live in Scotland so that shouldn't be a problem however....

Google Translate has become my most used app over the past few weeks...
The MB Quart system I'm not too sure, would be open to see if anyone else has this installed?
The door card speakers have a weird leather build out on them as they must have been too deep for the original speaker space. However they have been poorly done and some of the foam is protruding.
Had a look in the engine bay this morning. I'm needing a lot of retention clips. 3 for the engine cover, two for the air intake, two for the battery cover.

Thanks Don, ordered them from Import Car Parts - which took best part of 30mins due to getting side tracked on what they have on that website haha.
The Legacy was in at Andy Forrest Performance yesterday - clean bill of electronic health and 30-40bhp released at the same time. Lot more mid-range power now and still within parameters for the 5 speed MAT.
Replacement badges are in the UK and should be delivered soon.
Still hunting around for prices on getting retrimming done on dash/steering wheel etc.
Hunter alignment on Tuesday/Wednesday next week.

Brief update on everything;
Hunter Alignment was done today, vibration and pulling all gone.
All the missing clips have been replaced (thanks Don)
The guys at MB Jarvie Glasgow that completed my alignment did a good assessment of the underside and apparently the Dinitrol is holding up well. I may consider a top up when it gets closer to Scottish Winter.
My badge also arrived and has been fitted woo-hoo!! (apologies for the condition, it needs a wash)

Morning all I thought I would provide an update on how things are going.
Still awaiting a date for getting the interior recovered in Alcantara.
I'm thinking of topping the Dinitrol up again before Scottish winter happens. Not much rust underneath but it's looking old now and could probably do with a top up.
Was driving home this morning from Nightshift and my STI front splitter ended up hitting a dear carcass in the road, shearing off the splitter.
So it's in 4 bits now and it's ripped out the plastic from the bumper that holds the metal fixings for the splitter. So goodness knows how I'm going to repair that.

Thought I would provide another update to the project.
Dash retrimmer has finally been found. So the dash is getting re vinyled, steering wheel and auto gaiter and handbrake are all getting retrimmed in matching Alcantara with STI red stitching (not pink, weirdly red is used on the seats). MOMO will be stitched back onto the steering wheel in STI red.
I'll replace the head unit and speakers as well as they are showing their age too.
I had a quick dipstick check of the auto box fluid and it's needs a flush. So I'll take this as an opportunity to change the transfer box and rear diff fluids as well.

Good morning troops, so following on from my last post the dash has been flocked and the trimming has been done. Ready to go back into the car.
