Highest mileage on engine
Just had to get people views and opinions, I thought my mileage was quite high at 132000 but I saw a fellow subaru owner and his was on 160000 on original engine, he said the secret was use genuine parts and service it regular. Has anyone else got high mileage on original engines? Was just interested that's all. Thanks

My 02 WRX PPP is on 178k. I bought it on 120k. Cam cover gaskets needed replacing. Haven't had to replace anything else on the engine. 6k oil changes with 10/40w fully synth, genuine filters and warmed up properly each drive. Preventative maintenance and mechanical sympathy go a long way.
I doubt the compression is quite as high as when it left the factory though...

Wow I'm loving these high mileages it fills me with hope, I do contemplate getting rid of mine and getting a lower mileage one but I don't think I could part with it.

I've had 2 x cavalier gsi2000's a 1990 black one which had over 200k on the clock and ran like clock work and then I had a 1991 j plate 4x4 version, same redtop engine but with 90k on it and that was dog ****,burnt more oil than petrol and couldn't idle properly.
Always buy a car based on condition/proof of parts replaced rather than buying it because it has low miles.

My VW Passat is a 54 plate, cannot part with it. Not too high at 127k miles, but I need to be using it more. It's the 1.9 pd AWX TDi - pre DPF and Adbollox etc, that's why they stand the test of time. I've owned it for 14 years and was on 35k back then.
1.9 pd go forever, seen Golfs, Passats, Audi A4's and a lot of VAG models go well over 300k miles on 1.9 pd. They also map very well, mine was done by AMD in Essex about 10 or 12 years ago. The car owes me nothing now as I've owned it for so long. Road tax and MPG are very sensible.
Once my Hawk Spec D is back from re-build, I need to use that less and the Passat more.

Lower mileage doesn't necessarily mean better condition.

I took the plugs out....no fuel. Removed the relay, bridged the circuit with a few spade terminals and a 2" piece of wire...fuel pump then kicked back into life.
£20 from a parts factors for a new relay I was good to go. It was just clipped onto the bulkhead and back up and running. The clutch cable was getting stiff so I changed that in about 5 minutes. The days when stuff was easy!
The thing was like a go-kart, with amazing bottom end and throttle response.
I seem to recall another relay which you could take out, turn round and plug back in for different unleaded RON ratings.
It was a lovely clean example, only to be written off 6 months after I sold it. Sad.

There's a guy down my road who had a E46 320d for quite some time and has replaced it with an F01 730d.
I still see the E46 parked down my road sometimes and it turns out the new owner is the old owners brother.
Anyway, I spoke to the new owner recently and he said it was the original engine and turbo...sitting at 292k...and climbing!

My old Terzo #282 had 201,000 miles when I bust it for parts. Never had a rebuild in the 8 years I had it. I traced the 2 previous owners through scoobynet and they said they’d not had a rebuild while they’d had it. I just looked after it , regular servicing and mechanical sympathy. It ran at 285 bhp/ 290 ft/lbs for roughly 4.5 years. Then I fitted TD05 mapped too 350bhp 332 ft/lbs for around 3.5 years. Mapped by Paul Blamire both times on Apexi power fc. Used daily
