Default My JDM Blob

Hey all.

I’ve been on ScoobyNET for a little while now and want to introduce myself and my car/cars.

Im Chris. I joined up to ScoobyNET in January 2016 with my first scooby. It was a 57 plate Hawkeye Sti UK. I purchased it from Cheshire performance cars. I know some people have had bad experiences with this company but I went there only to view the car having heard the reviews of the place. The car had a good spec having had a rebuild with a forged bottem end from scoobyclinic and a SC36 turbski, SCR exhaust. On their rollers it made 367bhp with 370lbft. So the spec I was more than happy with. The cars condition itself was bloody good, I was actually surprised how good of condition it was. All pannels straight, no stone chips, paint work in excellent condition and underneath was hunky dory. It had FSH and lots of invoices from the Clinic which put my mind at ease. Credit to its previous Owner. After the viewing and test drive (was ace) I went home to think about it... Didn’t really need much thinking about it tbh, rang them, banged a deposit down and a few days later I picked it up.

After a short while of ownership I parted with it. I have no idea why (******) It was such a great car and by far the best car I’ve ever owned. Still regret it to this day.

Anyhow after the scooby I picked up this little Gem. My Glanza V. And I fekking love it. I’ve done 3 trackdays at Blyton park with it as standard. Then I wanted more power (as ya doo).

I’ve done all the work to it myself, currently it’s running a hybrid TD04 with a Tial external wastegate. WMS 4 pot front brakes (does endos now haha). Rear Arb, BC coilovers, ALK, stiffer bushes and some sticky AD08Rs. It like a blood go kart. It’s current mapped on the ME221. Only running .7 bar wastegate pressure atm. I’ve got a few more bits to fit (injectors, map sensor, 3PBCS) and then back to mapping again, should see some good power.

I never got over the fact I had got rid of the scooby. So I went on the hunt for another one. But this time I wanted a JDM version. I narrowed it down to a V7 bug or V8 blob. After seeing a couple of examples they was all quite ruff. I had a few months of looking and I decided to take a trip down to Hurst Cars Bedford to see a fresh import blue V8 blob. I fell in love with it straight away and I had to have it. The paint was not perfect by any means but it was a lot better than the others I had seen. The main thing that sold it for me was how clean the underside was. And the engine bay was spot on also. The test dive was great... Apart from getting pulled over by the boys in blue (was a plain white BMW) Luckily the chap understood what I was doing and let me off with a talking to, PHEWW! It had a few subtle mods. An Apexi back box, Wedssport SA90 wheels, Defi boost gauge and some Racing Gear coilovers which are great.

After a few days of ownership I ordered some Federal 595RSR’s to replace the ****ty tyres it came with from Jap land. Also I replaced the brake pads With some SCR pads which I had purchased for the previous scoobs. I gave it some fresh Millers CFS 10w50 oil and genuine black oil filter along with Motul gear 300 75w90 for the gearbox and some Motul 90 PA for the rear diff. Didn’t really need it as all oils looked pretty fresh. But for peace of mind I did it anyway.

So that’s how she stands at the moment. Ordered quite a few more bits for her and booked in at the Clinic on the 3rd of Jan for a map using ECUTEK.

Thanks for reading. Im going to try and update this as things happen.

Cheers,

Chris.

Cheers mate. Yea I know that’s the main reason I went for it. Just got to try and keep it like that now.

Just a little bit of an update. Orderd a RCM 3” downpipe and center section to go with the Apexi back box. I’ll post pics when they arrive. Also fitted some wind deflectors, mud flaps and a JDM hazard switch, think it looks loads better.

Update time.

So I've had a few things arrive. I decided to get myself a Keys Racing steering wheel and Works Bell boss kit from RHD Japan. The standard one just felt massive.

It feels awesome to drive now.

I also got a RCM 3" downpipe and centre section, which I am very pleased to say fit great and the quaility was top notch. I previously bought a H&S downpipe and centre section but the quaility and fitment of it really put me off. So glad I went RCM in the end.

It mated perfectly with my Apexi back box.

I have a few more things which should be fitted in the next few days including, a RCM fuel pump, NGK heat range 7 spark plugs and a fuel filter. I'm then booked in for mapping with Andrew Carr at Richard Henry motorsport on the 1st of May. Excited is a understatement hehe.

So.... the other day I fitted the spark plugs which I thought was going to be a pig, but turned out to be a piece of cake. I think the spark plug fitting kit I bought form halfrauds helped.

I then had a trip up to Richard Henry Motorsport on the 01/05/18 to have it mapped by Andrew Carr. And Wow what a great job he did. Two switchable maps high and low boost on the auto intercooler spray button, with pops and bangs on the high boost map + LC. It's bloody loud but sounds epic and goes like stink. I would 100% recommend Andrew to anyone who's looking to get their Scooby mapped.

If anyone would like to trade a RCM 3" non resonated centre section for a resonated one please give me a shout.

Overall very happy with the Scooby as she is now, the only thing I want to do in the near future is fit my defi gauges and maintain it to the highest standards. And maybe a hybrid vf37
