Default MY03 WRX progress thread

well, after a 6 month absence from owning a subaru to purchase an E46 330i ( moment of madness imo ) im back to the scoob

this was number 4 that i gave up

and im now back with number 5

the car had been stood for 6 months before i got her so needed a fair bit for the MOT so i replaced

both rear struts for new units
front and rear discs and pads
2x rear anti roll bar bushes with powerflex ones
new wiper blades

sadly as with all cars a few problems have arisen since ownership

ABS light on intermittently (sourced the problem down to a broken rear ABS ring)
bulb has gone in the speedo (really annoying not seeing the rev counter!)

when i got the car it had a fake HKS SSQV that was leaking like the titanic so the was swapped straight away for a standard recirc valve, it also has a rather annoying and imo stupid 5" stainless backbox and is currently sat on 18" inovite tarmac alloys but that will soon change. plans are:-

swap the exhaust for a prodrive backbox DONE
swap the inovites for standard 17" gold WRX alloys DONE
prodrive Y pipe DONE
upgrade the standard speakers and headunit for a decent set (no sub though!)
single A pillar pod with boost gauge
and thats all!

after owning a few classics i notice the newage doesn't feel as "tight" in the corners but still leaves a smile on my face when i drive it

comments and criticisms welcome

I'm in the same boat at the moment lol but I'm selling my 2005 WRX with an STI forged engine conversion to get a 535d M Sport. I can honestly say I'll never be back in a subaru, I'm used to driving luxury cars and these impreza just don't have any at all haha.

Then why did you buy a Subaru? It's a rice rocket, not an autobahn wafter!

I really enjoyed my 03 wrx, enjoy yours for what it is and don't listen to all the sti fan boys ( I have an sti 😀 ) keep it running good and look after it and it'll be a good car.

I've always liked them and this is my second one but sadly won't be back after this one goes. This one I've got is stunning don't get me wrong, everyone comments on how nice it is but like I said I'm used to luxury cars.

more progress:-

the large and annoying 5" backbox was removed

and has now been replaced with a prodrive backbox - much quieter and bearable and still gives that burble im looking for

ita sitting a little bit close to the rear bumper so ive got to get back underneath the car again at some point and sort it out

the "genuine fake" HKS SSQV black removed

standard recirc valve refitted

inovites gone

gold WRX alloys fitted

but with the good also comes the bad - a few more jobs to add to the list

repaint the bonnet scoop as a huge chunk of paint committed hari kari on me

wiper arms need some hammerite on them

and the black trim around the rear doors needs another paint

but the BIGGEST thing ive found when i returned to the car from the carpark was this

goes from headlight to rear light along the passengers side

but sadly that will have to wait till i can find the cash to get that sorted.

was also thinking of getting some hella horns for the front end as ive always liked the look of them - plus the horns are embarrassing to say the least
