Hi folks

I'm looking at getting an oil catch can for my v2 WRX. Not mainly by choice but easier than replacing the oil feed pipe to the air intake pipe

So I was wondering if anyone with a catch can fitted on their v2 (any model) please pop up a pic of where they have it fitted please?

Also how easy/hard are they to fit?

Do they all have a filter on top Matt? I'm getting one with 3 oil ports and a breather (I think it is) so does the breather have the filter or would it go in to the breather pipe already there?

This is my current RA fella. It's a 3 port can with filter on the top. The other two ports are on the back side. I had the can custom made to my measurements so it would fit perfectly in the space.

On my old car I ran a twin can setup

You need a filter to vent it. Some run a silicone hose from one of the outlets down the firewall and then fit a filter to that.

You should have a can with three ports for the breathers and then another port for a filter.
My can has the filter on the top, one port on the side for passenger side rocker breather and then two ports on the back for the other rocker breather and the crank case breather.

Measure the size of the port that you intend on fitting the filter to and then search ebay. I picked mine up for about a fiver iirc.

I think its supposed to be 15mm port so not sure if I need a 15mm filter or if I have to go slightly bigger. Also I think the rocker cover breathers on the can are 12mm so what size hose would I need for that?

Original port points ???? Do you mean where the original breathers fed into fella ?

I've retained my original intake so the ports on that have been blanked yes chap. The crankcase breather originally feeds into the intake manifold via the pcv valve when off boost and then into the intake pipe when on boost. I've blanked the pcv valve on the back of the manifold and redirected the breather straight into the can.

Measure the outside diameter of the ports and then order the hose with the same internal diameter or a mm bigger if you can get it.

Silicone is fine. I chose to use a decent quality hose to help prevent any kinks etc.

Buy decent stuff is my advice. Buy cheap buy twice as they say.

I was looking at braided hoses but no where near those prices So will probably get some braided then

I used braided hose on my old car and swiftly removed it and swapped for decent silicone hose.

The stuff I linked from ASH isn't expensive anyway....roughly £20 for 3m of decent silicone hose.

designation at fengate are good for hoses and stuff, bit more expensive but if it breaks or gets damaged they normally swap it !

i fitted mine to the passenger side suspension strut, made a bracket at work.
i didnt return to sump so have to empty mine but thats not an issue as the car doesnt get used too much.

Just checked and the pipes I was looking at are pvc coated braided hoses but not rigid ones

it doesnt hence i didnt plumb it back to sump,but its only moisture so on a track car it wouldnt occur anyway so not an issue

Go to your local pirtek and buy some hydraulic hose. Looks oem and the factory clips can be used

I went for a non return as well. No hardship in emptying it once a year maybe. As it does about 3000 miles a year anyway

Hose lengths. I was looking at 5 meters of each, 12mm and 15/16mm. Am I looking at way too much and if so how much you reckon? tank will either go where the gap is next to the air box or opposite side near nattery attached to the fan belt cover.

Mine doesn't have ac so is located on the near side inner wing under the strut brace. I chose the new age one from obp as it had the bracket attached. New age pipe work is the different diameter though. I have the spigot sizes somewhere I'll post them up later. Obp can make the can any dimensions you want:
