STI Hatchback 2008
Okay so i have decided to keep the STI Hatchback it was a choice out of either Type r Version 6 LTD or STI Hatchback these 2 are MY personal favourite Subaru's
Looks like i landed a decent Hatch its push button start and has the recaro half leather seats, 113km (70K) 2.0 engine (which is meant to be better)to my surprise it also came with a second key and Japanese service history and manuals
Questions for any hatchback experts, some of my questions have been answered on another thread.
1) What wheels are they ? look different to hatch i have seen.
2) With it being fresh import on classics they need fuel mapping is it the same with these ?
3) on this hatch seems to be missing controls on steering, is that common on JDM ?
4) is there a better option for rear lights, don't like lexus lights ?
Im planning on getting some 19" TE37SL for it, is there any nice wide arch conversions ?
any suggestions on nice sounding exhaust system.
Thanks in advance

Wheels are standard euro/non uk wheels, BBS I think.
Yes to a map, UK cars run 98ron and over.
2.0 engine and no cruise/stereo controls on the wheel leads me think its a Spec C spec'd with Recaro's.
Red overlays are available for the rear lights.

Hey
1)Your wheels are the BBS limited option
2)A map would be recommended for UK fuel
3)Not too sure on the steering wheel, the JDM hatches I've seen with the Recaro seats don't have the multi-function, that could be a coincidence though.
4)You can get a red overlay for your rear tails, it's a common mod. Search for "Blue bat overlays".
Here's a link to the rear light mod:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...s/HPIM0846.jpg
The Spec C hatch comes with Golden brembos and no roof vent.
Congrats on the JDM goodness

I'd get the car mapped as soon as you can but run on V Power and octane booster for the time being.
If you're on the lookout for a nice exhaust I'd recommend a Hayward and Scott, or a Miltek. I also hear good things about the Revolution system. Might be best to fit that at the same time you map the car, ECUTek race rom seems to be the one of choice for these cars.
At the same time you might want to uprate the panel filter, you can max the turbo out at around 360bhp give or take a few bhp, on pump fuel.
As for the rear overlays, I have experience of the excellent IAG ones from 'murica - they have good feedback on the US forums. I have secondhand reports that some of the others are not good to handle but I'm not sure if that's just the nature of the beast. Here's mine

Another option is the new complete replacement headlights by Valenti, they look very nice but you'd be taking a leap of faith in buying them as I've seen no feedback!

Good choice of car. As I said on another thread I've seen a couple of black hatches round Bury/Bolton way but obviously not yours! Are you local ?
Any one you recommend for mapping ?
Hope you don't mind me throwing questions right, this is one I will throwing my money at hoping to keep as second car for a while.

It's difficult to compare the hatch and the newage Spec C cars. Whereas you have shared parts under the hood such as the oil cooler and oil pump etc, the cars are very different. The hatch Spec C is a pretty refined car and iirc around 30Kg lighter than the regular car - quite a marked contrast to the newage cars which are around 70Kg lighter but can be around 100Kg different if you compare say an RA-R to a regular UK STI.
If you have the time you can search for Rob Ostle's white hatch on the 2008 Hatches thread, his car is an absolute peach and features a roof vent that he fitted from a newage car.

I'd recommend Andrew Carr if you wish to stick locally, he has a stellar reputation among Lancashire and District Subarus. I don't have any experience of having my cars mapped by him though.
In terms of mapping in general, I have only ever heard good things about Andy Forrest, Bob Rawle and JGM.

Such an awesome car!
I'm biased about the engine being the very best EJ ever made (I have one in my 2004 LGT Wagon ) but simple specs are:
- EJ207 with "3/4 closed deck" (semi-closed but cylinder walls are about twice as thick as EJ257)
- VF49 twin scroll turbo (journal bearing, non-titanium comp wheel)
- 254(ish)* inlet and exhaust cams (Spec Cs have 258/262 I/E from memory)
- dual AVCS with ports that are gigantic even by "ported" EJ257 head standards (I've compared my W20 heads to a friend's Cosworth 257 single AVCS "big port heads" and I'm happy to say mine are bigger )
- FORGED! pistons and rods
- Nitrided, double cross-drilled crank (257 only gets nitrided)
As a basis for power, the GR EJ207 is phenomenal: there is a guy in Australia with a Spec C engine in his 2004 Legacy auto making about 650bhp on E85. The only non-standard long block parts are the ARP CA625+ head studs and Tomei head gaskets.
For your exhaust, you won't need a new down pipe unless you want to go for a cat-less one; the JDM model gets a bell mouth down pipe from factory (It's in two parts and I took the "down" part off mine an cut the first cat out for better flow immediately after the turbo)
Congrats on such an awesome look car!
Also, be very carful with what oil you use: I ran 5W-30 in mine and it was great, I then switched to a semi-synthetic 10W-40 on advice from an engine builder here in Aus but the engine DID NOT like it. I'm now back to a full synth 5W-30 and 5,500-8,000 rpm is now free and easy again

As for your exhaust, I went and saw Ian at haywood and scott. Got a centre section and backbox custom build from him. Sounds amazing, just as i wanted and tailored to fit your car. Give him a call if you want to make an enquiry.
