My new RB5 project
Hi all, this is my new RB5, number 74.
Its a project as I would like to get it to a high standard..so a little ways to go, plus it has a lunched box....but I have a new one ready to go in.
I picked it up from a guy who apparently doesn't know how to do up wheel studs! On the drive back the passenger front wheel decided to try and part company with the rest of the car! In the process, destroying the hub nut holes, the studs, spigot ring and making a mess of the mating surface of the wheel,
Any way, new hub and studs arriving tomorrow or the day after and then a new box going in.
It has ultralite spec alloys, Ksport 8 pot brakes unsure of lowering springs but no rubbing and a nice ride despite the above, very clean interior, Hayward and Scott down pipe, de-catted, hdi front mount, ecutek remap and some poorly painted engine bits....did I mention its a project?
I was promised that it had a vf34 turbo and less dents... but alas it has a td04 and more dents... so pushing being pi$$ed off to one side I made an offer on the car and he accepted... I'm happy to say I got it cheap and its really a nice car.

plans are:
Replace hub and studs
replace gearbox
Remove dents
Attack the engine bay, replace rusted/corroded bits.
sand back and return skanky red bits to black and generally cheer things up a bit.
Repaint lower splitter
refurb alloys
remove any corrosion from underneath / repaint / waxoil.
Enjoy.........maybe fit bigger turbo!

Good man, I know everyone says they are just a tarted up UK car, but I have always loved the RB5. Good luck with the resto
Only thing I would add is to change the wheels... just a personal thing that though.

A mere UK car it might have been, but the RB5 always looked the nuts. And is a cracking car to drive.
With a few choice upgrades these are still back road weapons, so plenty of fun to be had getting it there.
I agree with F1 Fanny about the wheels, something BBS or Prodrive would look nice. Oh and I'd lose the Scooby Doo plush from the dash...

You're in the same boat as me, picked my RB5 WR up a few weeks ago for mainly a track car. If you are after some wheels eventually my RB5 speed lines will be for sale. Good luck with it mate 👍

Only had this thing 5 minutes and its driving me mad... wrong hub was sent to replace the dead one....sooo should be here tomorrow. Gearbox is definitely mullered so the spare is definitely going in...oh and the passenger side window has gone down and stayed down! so now I need to hot wire the motor to the battery just to get it back up if it isn't a dead motor, so then I'll have to look at switches etc !!
