Default interior light circuit?

hi guys a nice easy one for you all. im wanting to put led footwell lights in my 2000 bugeye but unsure where to tap into the interior light circuit. i want the footwell lights to come on with the interior light then go off it it does. before you all start i know its a bit chavvy but hey i like em not fancying taking the ceiling cover down and backtracking so where is the best place to tap into for pos and neg? wire colour and location would be amazing if anyone knows it. cheers

Not chivvy per se, it's what you want.

You need a permanent live to the led, and earth when the door is opened. Easiest way to find the switched earth is to remove the interior light and find the earth.

Take note of the colour of the wire, and trace it in he drivers side footwell.

I might actually do this too.

As far as I know we dont have interior light with alarm, so you will need a switching relay with a timer. The feed should be the wire to your central locking motor (1 of 2) that is negative when you unlock. Or use one spare feed from an ebay total closure system.

The interior light/s work by taking a live and through the dome light, then earthing it at any one of four places, those being the door pillar switches.

All you have to do is take the trim off near one and test each wire to it, see if it goes to earth or not.*

Then loop into the one going IN to the switch rather than the one going to earth.

some types of switches only have one wire: that's the one you want.

* To do this, make sure your footwell lights have a live. Take the wire going from them and touch it to any one of the two wires. If it stays on, test by pressing the door pillar switch in with your finger,. It should now go out. That's the wire you want to connect to.

If it goes out when you touch the wire, try the other one.

ha ha! success! thanks for the advice alcazar. In the end neil at scoobyspares located the cables for me to work off. just in case anyones interested the dome light can be easily accessed behind the drivers front pillar cover. so now when i press my alarm fob or open the door my footwells and under the car glow blue. when i close the door or start the car they go off so nice and legal. happy days. ill take some piccys over next couple of days and stick em in here

LOL......but why not just get your Defis wired PROPERLY?

On the controller:
Red: PERMANENT live, (even with the engine off).
Orange: SWITCHED live, ie: only when ign is ON.
White: Lights.
Black: Decent earth.

I'd like to bet your Orange wire is connected to something that is on when the IGN is on first click, not second?

I can't remember where mine is tapped in, but IIRC I took the cowling off round the steering column, and used a circuit tester like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-CIRCUI...item563a0e4542 to probe wires until I found one that was only live in IGN position 2.

Takes 5 minutes to do once you have one of those.
