96 wrx problem
hi guys and gals, iv a wee problem with the lights in my gf8 wagon
basically when i switch the lights on to the main beams (dips) my full beams come on too, then when i flick the stalk forward the mains go off and fulls are on like normal.all the lights go off when i turn the ignitio off and have doe since i got the car (never seen this on a jap car)
i was fitting some gauges into the car two nights ago when it happened, i took a power feed from the radio to the gauges but i made the rookie mistake of not taping the ends off straight away and she shorted of the radio. blew the 15 amp fuse, i replaced this and finished off the install, only after i had it all done and started the car did i noticed the headlight problem.
iv checked the fuses, and the relays in the main fuse box in the bay, and all the fuses in the interior box by the pedals. the stalk works all the signals and so on it will flash the high beams if pulled back as normal so i doubt its the stalk.
is there another relay somewhere im missing? iv checked both the single relays in the bay.
iv read that these are a switched earth but iv no idea really what that means in this instance.
i disconnected the gauges and tried the lights again but no use.
im lost as to what it could be......
i cant drive at night really as im using the spotlights, i have full beams all the time and when i flick for the dips i have both dips and full beams at once....
any info greatly appreciated

You might have burned out the main/dip relay. AFAIK it's either in the fusebox under the bonnet, or high up under the dash, driver's side. It could be stuck.
It could also be the stalk contacts burned and stuck.
For info:
DIPS are for driving round town, or when another vehicle approaches.
MAIN BEAMS are for out in the country.
The SPOTS you mention are FOGlights.
And in the UK there is no such thing as FULL beams.
Makes it easier to understand.
