Default DEFI - DC Cable Connections.

I am connecting up a set of white face DEFI's to my V5 STi.

The cigarette lighter is my prefered option as I don't smoke or use the socket.

Anyone have a simple guide to the connections. The DEFI cable as the following colours, but where do they connect to on the cigarette lighter cable, Which colour goes to:-

Red = ?
Orange = ?
White = ?
Black is ground and this can go into the radio harness.

Red is constant live
Orange is ignition live
White is illumination
You can run a wire straight from the ignition barrel for orange and while your behind the cowl get a light connection as well Ian

Your best bet is to buy one of these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-CIRCUI...item563a0e4542.

Always test it BEFORE starting work, clip croc clip to battery -ve and put pointed end onto battery +ve. It's no use if the bulb has gone and that DOES happen.

Clip the crocodile clip to a good earth and use the pointed end to probe wires for the correct ones. I've sometimes had to clip it to a longer wire direct to battery -ve, but you can usually find a bolt head etc.

As stated, you want RED to go to a wire which is live all the time, even with ignition off.
You want ORANGE to go to a wire which is ONLY live when the ignition is on SECOND CLICK, (ie: just before it turns against the spring to start it, NOT first click which puts the radio on etc).

Lastly, you want the WHITE wire to go to a wire which is ONLY live when ignition and sidelights are on. (Since sidelights don't come on without ignition anyway).

Using that circuit tester is the surest way, since whatever colours WE tell you are quite likely to be different on your car. Trust me........car wiring colours change with the wind

What I do is find the wire I think is correct, then for example, turn OFF the sidelights, ignition etc and check the tester goes off too.

Always the best method. You'd be surprised how wiring colours change.

Pinouts are often useful, but there is no substitute for a decent circuit tester.
