OK Am I being thick or what, folding mirrors!!
Hi all,
I am really struggling to fit these feckin mirrors. I bought a set of folding ones second hand off a chap on here and really want to get them fitted. I have a 2003 Blob WRX but I have fitted the later model blue trim door panels. That means i have the additional mirror control and fold switch on the door trim which I want to use.
I have also bought the plug that goes onto the back of said mirror control switch with 4 inchs of cable so i can splice in.
I have trawled, google, search the **** out of this and have found some great posts however what is confusing the hell out of me is the wire colours and of course connecting to the the door switch:
the car side is :
the original mirror pins are:
the new mirror pins are:
I have the service manual which has different colours to all of the above! and the US sites I have found write ups for has different colours again!
Has anyone done this before or have any write ups or ideas on how to do this!

First off, the wire colours on the mirror side of its plug will not show up on any wiring diagrams, you have to ascertain for yourself what each wire does.
Easier done before removing the plug
For the original mirrors you will have 2 heater wires (simples, more than likely both green), a common wire and an up/down movement and a LH/RH movement wire.
The voltage direction through the common plus up/down or LH/RH determines the mirror movement.
On the harness side of the plug.......
RH mirror:-
Common - Red
Up/down - Red/black
LH/RH - Light green
Heater - Black and Blue
LH mirror:-
Common - Red
Up/down - Red/black
LH/RH - Blue/red
Heater - Black and Blue
All taken from here:-
For the new switch you appear to have all the same coloured wiring as the original plus two additions (looks like yellow and black/white from your photo - the two on the left). These will be the fold motor wires and voltage direction through them determines fold/unfold.
Looks as if you need to run the two additional wires from the switch to each door mirror and connect them using an additional plug.

Just noticed - looks as if your "new" mirrors are not heated.

Wiring diagram with the later (MY06) switch plug.........
Pin 1 is empty. Pins 9&10 for the fold/unfold
Comparing the two diagrams you should be able to work out which goes to which between old style and new style plug.

nice one Don that helps a lot i think, I took photos of the plugs before removing them so know where the pins went they are really easy to get on and off so not too much of a problem :-)
I think it may be ambitious of me to wire up the whole loom of the control switch so might just do the fold function.

thanks for all your help guys. going to fit them up this week hopefully. I wont have time I think to fully do the folding option as away from thursday, other problem is the mirrors have been sent already folded, you reckon i will be safe to connect up to a 12v supply to open them before fitting?
