Default Water in tail lights ??

I have some water in my tail lights, just wondering if anyone has ever taken apart the tail lights to clean them out and resealed them, or should I just buy new ones ?

Neither.

remove, soak out water using PATIENCE and a halves of kitchen towel with a bit of stiff but bendy wire wrapped round it: mains twin and earth core is good.

Once as dry as it can get, stand it bulb-holes up in the airing cupboard overnight, then refit on a cold dry day.

DO make sure to:

Check how the water got in. Look for minor cracks, leaks etc.

Reseal the lights to the car with Carafax.

Had to do mine this summer. Car was stood in full sun, lights LOOKED dry, that night, LOADS of condensation.

The trick is patience: I could SEE water wicking into the paper towel when I got it right.

And the amount is ridiculous: took over TWELVE sheets of paper towel to get it dry enough to leave open to dry on it's own.

I used loads of bags of silica gel beads, as I had loads in my desk drawer from pc parts, so bit of fishing gut and they soaked the water up.

The Ebay seller sold them as mint, but the bulb holders were incredibly rusty, and there must have been a good gallon (or seemed like it) in each lamp. But sorted now, esp with the carafax stuff.
