Default Boot spoiler brake light!

Hi all. One of the bulbs in the brake light in my boot spoiler is out. Are they LED's? Also how do you change them? There looks like theres a plastic strip just underneath the light. If I remove that, will the fixings for the light be behind it? It's a 2007 Hawkeye STI. Thanks, lee.

LED's yes.

Getting it off is down to removal of that plastic strip, also yes, but if it's owt like the classics, the spoiler has to come off since the plastic strip is held on with three machine screws from the BOTTOM of the spoiler. The actual LED brakelight is then held in with two more machine screws.

Your next problems will be:
Getting INTO the brakelight,
Sourcing an LED of the same size, colour, voltage and brightness,
And unsoldering the old LED, then soldering in the new

Thanks for the reply alcazar. Sounds to me like a bit of a pain! Do you know which LED I will need? In relation to size, voltage etc? I suppose it will give me something to do over the weekend!

No clue, bud, but IF you can get it apart, you might see.

It will either be 12V or it will need a resistor. I'd GUESS 12v, since there just isn't the space to include a dozen resistors. Now watch: you'll turn it over and there will be a circuit board with resistors.

Actually, thinking THAT through, the resisitor will either BE there, or not.

If it's there, buy a standard low voltage LED. If it's NOT there, buy a 12V one.

Size will be 5mm or 8mm, and I'd guess at clear red.

Next problem: what intensity?

And can you solder/desolder, plus get it the right way round?
