Small wire type.
I replaced them with LED's, as the first repair (with the above type bulbs) did work perfectly for give or take 2 weeks.The bulbs are very fragile, and also they get very hot inside the switch.This causes them to go out very easily I believe, as my model railway uses the same bulbs, and I have no problems with the bulbs there.
It's quite easy if you have some soldering skills, and the illumination is much nicer as well.
