Glass replacement?

Has anyone ever replaced just the glass/plastic on their headlights? I have some nasty chips on one side but can't justify throwing away the whole unit. The price of a 2nd hand one is mental as well (02 STi) I was thinking of buying a standard bugeye light and swapping the glass, but not sure if they're the same?
