Default Ignition wires on a 98 Classic

I am trying to fit a cutoff switch to my 98 UK classic, and I am trying to work out which wire will cut the engine from the ignition?

Cheers

Are you after the starter wire mate? it should be black with white stripe on the ignition harness and the ignition wire should be green if you want to hook it to that, you can also connect the switch to the fuel pump wire which can be located in the drivers side kick panel but the starter or ignition will be the easiest to connect to.

Hope this helps

Thats fantastic- I do at least know now, and your help is appreciated.

I have now found out I need to know what the 'field wire' is coming out of the alternator. The rules say all power must be cut, so as I understand it, if the battery and alternator are cut, then all good.

I have been told to look at the alternator end, and have these wires coming out.

Any suggestions as to which one is the field wire? Im guessing there are effectively two lives, and two earths?

All help appreciated!

AFAIK, that will still allow the engine to start, just flatten the battery?

The fia cut offs cut the power to the battery, and the alternator to cut that, it's the alternator part I'm struggling with as above.

That sound sensible?
