I have recently picked up a tasty blue '01 Bugeye WRX Wagon and wanted to know if anyone else has a mystery green light next to their fog light switches. All this appears to do is flash once when I use the indicators which seems pointless . Anyone else got something similar and wishes to shed some light?

It may be for towing electrics. See if the car's had a tow bar fitted. When towing, there must be a seperate warning that the trailer indicators are working. On my classic, the flasher unit is replaced by one with an extra terminal. That goes to a warning light or (in my case) a buzzer. This only activates when the trailer is plugged in. If it is that, just ignore the light. It may be worth checking around the rear light wiring to make sure that whoever removed the towing electrics did a good job. I've seen all sorts of rip outs leaving bare wires etc.
