Electrical Fault - Alternator?
My Sport has had an electrical fault for a while, but it was only a problem occasionally, so I've ignored it, but now its getting worse.
Everytime I put some load on the electrical system, everything goes off, radio, dashboard etc. It even sometimes resets the ABS so the light comes on. Its never affected the drive though, the engine runs fine all the time.
This has started happening a lot though, if I indicate with the sidelights on the bloody dash goes off
My first thoughts were Alternator, but having tested with a multimeter, the voltage never drops below 14v, even with everything on. It does whine a little, as if its working hard, but if it was at fault, surely the voltage would be dropping? Measured across battery terminals, and from the alternator to -ve on the battery and its perfect.
The battery on it is about a year old, and charges up fine, and gives a decent voltage with the engine off too.
Help, I'm very confused, and it needs an MOT before the month is out
