hi all, could someone tell me what actually brings the low petrol light on? and dont say low petrol lol.
is it something in the tank or is it turned on by the needle?
i ask as just got in the car and the needle was just below quarter of a tank but the light came on.

Dont know but my wrx one comes on when the needle is almost on empty but my mother has a my98 impreza GL and that comes on just under quarter of a tank.

 

mine came on today with exactly 1/4 tank left but i was stationary on a downward slope so i guess the sender unit which lights the light must have been at the opposite end of the tank to where all the petrol was.It went off again once i leveled out and hasnt come on since

 

Does anyone know if a classic sti would have one? I have had my needle right down to the empty mark and have never seen a low level light come on.

 

Early classics didnt have them mate, think it was from facelift that they had them fitted
