Question What Should I Fix My Grounding Kit To?

Hi guys,

Just bought a grounding kit to replace the ageing one fitted by Subaru.

I've got 7 wires to fix, but no instruction on where they should be fitted.

I was thinking;
1) N/S wing
2) O/S wing
3) Inlet manifold
4) Alternator
5) Starter Motor
6) ???
7)???

Any suggestions?

Mine has an aftermarket one (already fitted when i got the car).

1 on each suspension turret
1 on the inlet manifold
1 on the firewall
1 on each side of the engine (just above where the coil packs are)

Sorry to hijack, but what exactly are the benefits of fitting a grounding kit?? Are they worthwhile?

Cheers

grounding kits are designed to lower the resistence from the battery to the body thus giving better charging which means better voltage and not proven a better spark which will produce more power. They are very big in japan's tuning scene. got one on my car did notice easier starting. the resistence should be less then 0.5 ohms for a good earth. measured between battery and body. the earthing kit will only be as good as the bolts you connect it to they must be spotless best to use locking washers and some copper grease.

I'm still not clear where I need to attach the wires for best effect.

1) Inlet manifold
2) N/S Wing/Strut tower
3) O/S Wing/Strut tower
4)
5)
6)
7)

The other four I'm now confused on what the best options are? Firewall, heads, bottom end, chasis, alternator, starter motor and so on.

Any one?

Right, I got down to it and started to fit the grounding kit. I couldn't beleive the state of the old one, and I didn't realise there was only two grounding points of the battery.

I've fitted a wire to the two factory grouding points, the one by the coolant bottle and the one on the rear of the block.

I've then fitted one to each of the strut towers and one to the inlet manifold.

So I've got two left to fit, I was thinking one to the alternator casing although I'm not sure where I can fit it without to much grief and the other I'm not sure.

I was either thinking the firewall or the starter motor.

Anyone else got any idea's?

So far I've noticed the car idles so much better and started easier. Not that it was bad before.

What an easy cheap improvement to DIY.

I ran one through the firewall to the chassis of the ECU in the passenger footwell. With all the sensors running off the ECU a good earth on the casing has to be a priority.

I'll have to source some more wire, but I think you're right, certainly a good idea.
