Just been going over mine and checking the lamps work after fitting some new front lights, thought I'd check the rear clusters and there's only on fog light working.

Upon further investigation there was no lamp or lamp holder but a blanking plate were is should be. Is there ment to be two fog lights on the rear?

It is a uk spec turbo 2000 wagon '99

IIRC, just one, positioned so as to be on the o/s of the car.

Don't quote me on this, but I've a feeling it was done like that so as to be different from brakelights

Cheers for that, knew that only one is needed for MOT but thought Subaru would have put two in as there's space for it.

Nope.........as stated above, it's to stop people seeing the light and assuming you are braking, so hitting their own brakes.
