I USED to recommend Halfords Brilliance, but they are no longer on BOGOF, so FAR too dear at nearly £50 a pair

The last ones I bought (for my youngest) were Osram Nightbreakers, 90% uprated, and cost me under £20 the pair, delivered.

One of our HID kits will be cheaper in the long run and provide far better light

Standard wattage, high performance bulbs don't last any reasonable amount of time in my experience.

Bob!

The OP said cheap

You can buy a heck of a lot of bulbs for the price of an HID kit

Cheap short term or cheap long term

HIDs will be cheaper long term than Osram Nightbreakers IMHO.

How so, Bob? An HID "bulb" lasts, according to research, 3-5 times longer than a halogen.

Three times, gives a cost of £60, five times gives a cost of £100, so it'll depend on how lucky the buyer is with either type of light.

Anyway. it's academic, as the OP wanted small outlay

Philips Extreme +80% are excellent and can be had for IRO £18 a pair (eBay & others). Before considering HID's, remember that most aftermarket HID kits do not have self-leveling or washer jets and thus may well be illegal and a potential MOT failure. They may be bright, and make you think your journey is all safe as you can see better, but when you've dazzled an oncoming car and they hit you head-on, they may not seem quite as good an idea.

Opens popcorn, and awaits Bob5

But actually agrees.

BTW: loved the "before and after" HID shots: "before", taken above the light, and "after" taken looking INTO the light Yes, I know, they are still whiter, I'm pulling your leg!

HID bulbs last around 10 times longer than convention halogens. Performance halogens don't last as long as conventional halogens.

HIDs are cheaper in the long run and do provide far better visibility

TEN TIMES as long? I don't know where those figures came from, but most sites I looked at , those with no axe to grind either way, quoted 3-5 times

Our manufacturer state 10 times.

If their component return rates are anything to go by, the numbers are undertstated if anything.

Not all HIDs kits are equal

In 21 years of driving I have NEVER replaced a headlight bulb because it has blown I have upgrade a few to the higher performance bulbs, but considering I kept one car for over 13 years you would have expected them to need replacing at some point ! I do however have a mate with a Volvo with permanently on headlights and he replaces one or more about every 4 months or so.

I have rarely changed a headlight bulb, BUT as all my cars have had additional lighting with up-rated bulbs... they didn't last nearly as long !

DunxC

HID main beam is awesome, no need for additional driving lamps now !

bought hafords super brilliance now and theyre wicked, brighter white light with tint of blue, lovely. especially through my angel eyes

HID kit i WILL be buying from bob, but as i have a classic atm which i wanna sell to buy a bugeye, i thought i wouldnt bother upgrading the classic

will defoo have hid kit on bugeye when i get one though

And your point is?

Who said I don't like HID's? I bet I was the first person still using this site to actually have HID's fitted to my car Been on it since 1999.

My bugbear is people on here flogging their stuff without telling the truth, or sometimes, the whole truth about it.

So Bob5 says "my supplier says", and suddenly that's gospel? Oh and of course, HE doesn't have an axe to grind, does he?

Ten times as long is wishful thinking. Sites in the UK and USA which did tests found 3-5 times. THEY were selling neither Just like me

Have a nice day

I won't bother to correct your appalling English, but as for your comments:

They ARE illegal, according to DfT. Never mind WHAT Bob5 says, they fact is that a response from Dft stated that in writing: Illegal to sell, fit and use for use on public roads unless your car has headlamp washers and self-levelling. Which 99.9% of Scoobs DON'T!

At one point Bob5 agreed to tell everyone buying his stuff that this was the case, "offroad only, take the risk if you want", but has not done so, other than on his site if you order. He continues to push them on here without mentioning their legality, or otherwise.

The ones I have are aftermarket DRIVING lights, so NOT illegal

As I've stated elsewhere, I have no axe to grind, I am NOT making a profit selling the things, nor do I get a feedback if I STOP anyone buying, but I'll continue to point out the drawbacks so that people ARE informed and can then make up their own mind whether to take the risk or not.

I'll STOP doing it when Bob5 is TOTALLY honest and does it for me

Hope you enjoyed your nice day

Alcazar: I have been very patient with your ramblings and tried to keep it light hearted, but enough is enough!

It's time to put up or SHUT UP.

Why don't you:

1. Show everyone the legislation that shows they are illegal to sell?
2. Feel free to report Aztec Performance Ltd to the authorities for selling illegal products

I'll tell you why: 1. There is no such legislation (surely you are intelligent enough to know that a press release is not law). 2. They will laugh at you.

Your comments are bordering on becoming slanderous towards Aztec Performance and we will no longer take it lightly.

Everyone is made aware that HID kits are intended for off road use BEFORE they order. I am not obligated, nor feel the need to state it on every HID related post.

People, including myself are getting sick and tired of it. Stop treating people like idiots and ramming things down their throats.

You certainly don't sound like someone with no axe to grind
