Hi,

I have a 2002 WRX fitted with the JDM STI HID lights using the 'George' wiring loom adaptors these worked fine until around a month ago when they started to flash (i.e. switch off momentarily) when my indicators self cancelled particularly when indicating left. Is there a known issue with the lighting stalk or is it likely to be something more complicated.
How easy is the stalk to remove, will it involve taking off the steering wheel?

Can't speak on the issue, known or otherwise, but it DOES sound like stalk contacts.

Does the George wiring loom include a relay? If not, I'd suspect burnt out contacts, or close to burnt out.

You can easily remove the stalk. Undo the screws beneath the steering wheel shroud, (there are three on mine), and separate the two parts of the shroud.

This gives access to the wiring etc. You should now be able to see that each side stalk is retained by a couple of screws and a wiring plug.

You ARE both sure the headlights are flashing and not "stuttering"?

After all, it's hard to tell stalk from stutter..............

I didn't think the HIDs drew more current than the H4's when on (ok maybe more on startup but that's only short duration). So you reckon I should relay each side then?
The 'George' loom is just a block that connects to the original H4 lead in the car them has the two correct connectors for the HID lights as they have separate Dip and main bulbs.
Another thing has any body succeeded in making the STI Hids only flash the main beam when you flash the lights - my dips (HID) flash too. This is because the positive is shared between the two and only the negative switches - my Ballasts are earthed to the chassis therefore with the main or dip on I have my dips. I want the dips on with main beam so I get no loss of light when switching up or down but only the mains when no lights on and flash to pass - possible or just picky?
