Default Rear fog light - import.

Just bought an MY03 import and it has a nasty looking rear fog hanging under the rear bumper, now the plan was to relocate it into the offside reverse light using an LED bulb, but I have been told, by an MOT tester, that the fog light would have to be 4inch from the stop light, which i thought was a bit odd seeing as my old 98 car had this done and was no where near 4inch from the brake light.
Now i have spoken to another MOT tester (I work at a motor factors) who said this is crap and it would be fine in the offside reverse light holder!

Any one had any experience with this??

My MY98 WRX has it in the rear cluster where the reverse light was. My tester says it makes no difference as long as its visible. Not sure about later cars though.

The first tester was right, they should be 100mm apart.
