Type R - crap lights
I have Morette style lights on my 99 Type R but as I found out this weekend, the lights are very poor. Main beam is ok but dipped was hopeless. I had Morettes on my P1 and I can't remember them being that bad, in fact they were if I recall much better than standard.
What options do I have without going to great expense - I would just like to see where I am going at night and in rain, albeit the weather over the weekend was terrible.
Any suggestions of an upgrade (bulb wise)?

iirc, if you upgrade the bulb in your morettes they will crack the class and or the plastic that the morette is made from asthe bulbs get hot. Other than upgrading to a HID kit, I don't know where you could go.

Are they GENUINE Morettes, ie: are the lenses marked "Cibie"?
If not, get some genuine ones
If they ARE Cibie lights, are you SURE they are set correctly?
I do mine as follows. (Find a straight, dark lonely road):
Remove fuse from Morette main beam relay. The inners will not now come on.
Select main beam. Hang something, (an old towel, etc), over one light, (or get a mate to stand in front of it, and set the other to give the best light.
Repeat for other light.
Replace main beam relay fuse. Block light from one side and main/dip, set up inner.
Repeat for other side.
I have GE Megalight 60% uprated bulbs in my Morette outers, and standard H2's in the inners. The Megalights have been in three years and not made me any problems so far.......
Halfords 50% uprated bulbs recently won a test on bulbs, and WERE on BOGOF. The ones in the gold boxes are the ones to go for, H4's.
