Default Dash lights

Is there a way of making the needle on a 95 classic light up better or is mine faulty? It's just at night I struggle to see the needles at all on the fuel or temp gauges and it drives me mad.

Would fitting a set of led bulbs meant for sidelights do the trick?

Question

Could be one, or more of the dash lighting bulbs has either gone completely, or blackened over.

I recently replaced one on our Xantia, and ended up doing them all, as those that WERE working were pretty dim. A few pence each, but not that easy to get to,

Will that cure the fact that the needle is difficult to see as the speed and rpm ones can be read but not the fuel or temp ones?

Question

Could be, M8. Difficult to say without seeing it, but being able to see the gauges relies on 'em being lit, so if that particular bulb is gone, or blued over, you'll only get a small amount of light from the other gauges. It'd be my guess, anyway.

Can't hurt to take a look.

What bulbs are they so I can go and get some from halfords or somewhere without having to take the dash apart twice just so I know what bulbs I'm looking for?

Is there any info on doing this ? I have never done this before

I don't know where to being with taking the dash out (necessary )or what ever bits I need to, to do this wee project.

Wire ended miniature 12v, you can get them at maplin BT43W for clear or PG79L for green ( they do other colours too). 70p or so each. Get a bagful and replace all the bulbs at the same time, working or not. the bulbs themselves sit in a little bayonet holder with the wire wrapped round, you need to take out the old bulb, put in the new one and wind the two wires round the lugs on the holder, dead fiddly but it can be done

you need to get in to the back of the dash, yes. The bulb holders are little round coloured things like screwheads, 1/4 turn gets them out, once they are out you'll be able to see how the wires fit on.

What's the best way to get to the back of the dash (any documents?), are there certain screws etc to release the dash or dials ?

Sorry about questions, virtual newbie to this bit but keen
