Sounds like an earthing fault. I had a Mk111 Escort that was similar: as long as I had my foot on the brakes, the sidelights came on and the engine would keep running even with the key off, and out.

Traced it to a poor earth in the n/s rear light.

Are you sure it doesn't have a turbo timer fitted?

I thought that but i have been out in it all week and it has never done this?
So I left the car for sometime to see if it would turn off but it stayed running! All i have done today is takeout the d/s headlight added some sealant and put it back (due to condensation)

Maybe your barrel lock is on the way out. Does it feel right with a posistive click when switching off?

That`s what i was thinking but it does click on and off because the radio starts beeping.
But the engine still runs and the Headlights lights don`t turn off.
