EGT Gauge
Thinking about getting one of these but got a few queries. Where does the sender go? will i have to have a hole drilled and tapped into the exhaust or is there one already there?
Am getting a custom downpipe made in a few weeks to go with a new exhaust system. Should i get the person who makes this to weld something in at the time?
Cheers.

The idea of monitoring EGT is to get an idea of what is happening within the cylinders, mounting the probe after the turbo will not give a true indication.
Easiest method is to mount a K-type thermocouple into the uppipe and link this to a digital voltmeter with thermocouple input like those available from Jaycar. Isn't neat but serves it's purpose well.
What gauge are you using?

I fitted mine on the manifold where the two branches join together to make one, I drilled and tapped it. It can be reached from the driver side wheel arch (once the engine bay bottom cover is removed) and is quite easy when the car is in the air

I am sure it is the same with all these things you can go for ages and never lose a probe but every now and again one lets go. you pays your money and takes your chance. I have seen the damage caused by a probe melting and it aint good.
After the turbo can and will give you a very good indication just the temp is lower that is all.
If you are trying to get the most out of your engine power wise before is prob best but just aint worth it IMHO
