To do it correctly you need two relays, one that is triggered by the fog light switch, and a second thats triggered by full beam..... it's quite easy, but then i've done it..... hard to explain though...

well, maybe if you have their original switch you don't need two, but if you don't have the right switch, then you can use the fog light switch and another relay!!!!! I've done mine like that!!!

Tried a search on here? I've posted instructions many times, but can't find them to paste this morning as my computer got wiped

It also depends on HOW you want them wired:

They MUST, (by law) extinguish when dip beam is selected, so you CAN wire them to come ON with main beam, OFF with dips, (one relay).

OR you can use an extra relay to bring in the OE foglight switch, which means you then have a choice as to whether they come on with manin beam or not, but they still go off when dips are selected.

Post again if you want blow by blow instructions, and which type of wiring.

id like them wired up so that i can use the headlights as normal and switch the driveing lights on and off as required using the oe fog light switch, weather the headlights are on dipped or full beam.

thanks

That's how the fogs are wired up.

Most people (including myself) have this sort of lamp wired to come on with main beam only, but with the front fog switch used as a master on/off - the lamps only ever come on when main beam is activated, but you have the option of switching the driving/spot lamps off completely with the old front fog switch. This is the only legal way of doing it, plus there's less of a chance of you blinding other drivers.

If you insist on using the PIAAs in the way you described above, do yourself a favour and stick to the OE fog lights - there's less chance of you having a screwdriver thrust into your eye socket by some pi$$ed off roadrager.

You'll get a pull from Plod, and it could fail it's MoT if you get an eagle -eyed tester.

I've always thought the wiring on the fog lights was foobar. It seems mad that you can only have the fogs on when the full beam are on. Full beams make your field of vision worse in fog.

My first car was a 1.4 fiesta which I fitted and wired a set of fogs in. I could have the fogs and low beams on and the view of the road was much better.

Full beams? As in "main beams"? Mine aren't/weren't like that, they would only come on with dips

Are you sure what you have aren't driving lights?

Doh, must be driving lights. Has anyone upgraded the PIAA driving lights to pencil beams? I heard these give much better focus and longer range.

.................and "tunnel vision", and are difficult to use on twisty UK roads too. But OK for motorways I suppose?

Personally, I'd stick with driving beams.........
