There ARE no spotlights on a '97 classic car. Unless they've been fitted by yourself or someone else, the OE lights are FOGlights.

If they ARE foglights, the bulbs are H3, 55W.

If they are spotlights or driving lights, the type of bulb depends on the light fitted, H2 in Cibies, H3 in PIAAs, IIRC, H3 in Hellas etc. The Cibies used 120W bulbs, theothers use 130 and 100W respectively.

FOG lights: mounted low down, wide flat beam to illuminate the road in front of you in poor driving conditions. (Actually useless)
Switched on seperately when other lights are on.
Used by prats to say "look at my car", (Chavs and bimmer drivers)
Lenses characterised by lots of vertical lines.

Spotlights: Mounted at headlight level, except on a Scoob where they often replace foglights (see above)
To be legal have to be switched so that they go OFF when dips are selected.
"Pencil" beam to illuminate distances, often used on rally cars with driving lights, (see below).
Lenses tend to be clear, or almost so.

Driving lights: Mounted at headlight height, except on Scoobs where they often replace foglights, (etc).
To be legal, must be wired as spotlights (above).
Wider, (but not as wide as foglight) oval beam, similar to main beams. Illuminates middle distance and distance, but not as much distance as spotlights.
Lenses characterised by few vertical lines.

Exactly.............but with a classic you have options.........loads of people sell replacement DRIVING lights to go in the space, and with the dark nights coming, what better time to think about a swop?

Well worth the dosh, if you do any out of town driving.
