electic window conversion...
is there a scooby with front electric windows only ??
I've been told by a breakers yard that i cant convert my manual front windows as the electrics go into the loom and the switches come in a 4 for all of the windows in a scooby.
1. Surely there are 2 door cars with electric windows ??
2. I would have thought that the Type-RA would have all of the wires in place up to the door and you just need to connect the motors within the door ??
am i correct in my thinking ??
if so does anyone know where i can get the necessary parts?
thanks
chris.

thing is, manufacturer's don't really make "one loom for all" to save cash, its more economical for them to make looms for whatever spec is needed and save on the wire/tape.
i used to think the same, i could get things from a higher model and just plug them in, sometimes this is possible, but i have seen the vast amounts of different wiring harnesses for the nissan cars in the factory. and i know they do in fact spec the harness to the cars trim level most of the time
with your car being a RA lightweight jobbie, its feasible that the plugs are not in your loom to connect the windows up.
the question you asked is the kind that never gets a reply, as nobody ever does this kind of stuff
you might be better off making your own mini loom up and taking an ignition live from the fuse box somewhere?
should save you time in the long run!
i had to do the same about 10 years back with a vauxhall LOL

Wiring looms USED to be one size fits all, at least at Ford they did
As a young man I once removed the instruments, (speedo and fuel gauge, that was all!!), from my Mk1 Escort, and replaced them with a full set, (speedo, revcounter, oil pressure, water temperature, fuel and voltmeter), from an Escort GT.
I was a LITTLE surprised to find that they ALL worked when plugged into the existing loom, except that the revcounter needed a connection making under the bonnet.

I guess they could make specific parts of the looms too, maybe the door loom is made with everything as it's small amounts of cable, however the main loom would save both relay's and wires and fuses etc if the ommited the added extras from production.
I was thinking of making my own mini-loom for the windows, however i wasnt sure if it would be that simple.
Taking power from the correct side of the ignition and making sure it's fused and then adding a switch
Thanks
minty.

I found this .......
Window Modules
If you're familiar with door locks, then window modules will be a breeze. Most connections are identical to a five wire alternating (+) 12 VDC door locking sytem. Others will require grounding one of the motor legs during up and down operations as with a four wire reversal door lock system. Some modules will control four motor legs to allow operation of two windows up and down. Some that control four motor legs will only allow operation of four up or four down. Be sure to get the one(s) you need for your application.
In either case, the window module switch and motor wires will be connected in series to each motor leg of each window you wish to control. In addition the modules will require connections to (+) 12 VDC, ground, and at least one *auxilary output of the alarm or keyless entry module. Others may include inhibits to prevent operation when the ignition is on or when the alarm is armed. These can easily be wired to suit your needs and omitted if not desired. Read your manual for details about your unit.
*Special applications will not necessarily require any connections to the alarm or keyless entry module. These may be triggered by devices such as feild disturbance sensors and other sensors and triggers.

The THREE wires sound like a live incomer, and one from each side of the switch (up and down), going to the motor.
When I installed my rear wash-wipe, I made up a temporary loom including the wiper/washer motor, the relay and the new switch, and connected it acrosss the battery to check that it worked, BEFORE installing it. Can you do similar?

Having looked at a wiring diagram for an 03 electric window system there is a basic relay to supply power from the ignition and then the switch is the trick bit of kit in the set up, it does the switching between negative to positive to raise or lower the windows. So.....
Anyone got any electric wondow switches (front) for a 96 Sti please ??

You're going to need new door cards, though aren't you?
