Question car stereo/gauge memory loss

After installing my defi boost gauge last week i switched the car on earlier and found it had lost its settings which i had previously inputed the day before. Before i had fitted the gauge i noticed my head unit was losing its preset radio stations also but didnt think much of it since i dont listen to the radio much. Checked the universal connections/ wiring at the back of the head unit with a multimeter and they seem to be ok + checked the wiring to the gauge and everything is spot on but i also noticed that the rear left speaker has no sound. The battery seems to be pretty low and i wondered if this would affect the stored info somehow? Was thinking about buying a trickle charger of somekind if it may help or should i just take it to the stereo guys to get them to check it?

Thanks for any input or help

Jono

Question

The only thing I can think of that would do this to both, is that your permanent live isn't.

Did you check for this with your mm?

I can't see that the battery voltage could get low enough to do this, and still start the car.

Yep i checked the permenant live with the multimeter and it all checked out fine. All the wiring is also fine except maybe the speaker wire which is hard to access atm. I am completly bewildered as to what it is mate.

OK, I'm remebering fitting my Defis now, and I had probs because a wire I used for permanent live, situated under the steering column, was only giving about 9V. I've absolutely no idea why, but once I went to one with full 12V, it was OK.

Ive defo got a 12volt feed mate as ive checked it. Its taken from the head unit area. Think i will have to take it to the specialist stereo geezers methinks.
