Dealer Fit Reversing/Parking sensor
Had one of these fitted to my MY03 STi but did not have any info to go along with it. Does anyone have details of what all the sounds mean?
It seems to have a mind of its own!

Dunno about the exact model but a lot seem to work on the closer you are, either the higher the frequency of beeps or the beeps get faster or both e.g.
10m - infinity away - no beep
10m - 5m - 1 beep/sec
5m - 2m - 2 beep/sec
2m - 30cm - continuous tone
etc
It might also have a light on the dash that flashes in a similar manner.
Best way to check is to reverse up to something and meaasure the distance when the signals change...
This assumes it only comes to life when you select reverse gear or have you got "all-round protection"

Hang on? 2m inwards sounds as continuous? What use is that? you can see 2m away through the window?

My figures were a guesstimate - possibly you can see at that distance but there's a lot of cars made to fool you and you're actually further away than you think for safety...
Plus, other peeps may not be able to look round as well as you
I once borrowed a 750 BM from a dealer (and did take it back ) and had to do a tight shunting round in the yard to get off the forecourt - that had the system on and it drove you nuts as it was all-round sensors - all it wanted was a voice shouting DIVE, DIVE, DIVE and you were set...

Thanks for replies. Next step is to spend a little time somewhere quiet testing it. Visit to the local car park on Sunday methinks.

Shepster, they work on microwaves rather than Radar so there's no holes to drill in the bumper. I've got them fitted to my WR1 and the wifes Forrester and they are worth the money.
They are sensitive to dirt, water and slopes so you can't just woosh reverse and let them worry about it. So long as you keep an eye on both wing mirrors and back up slowly they'll warn you properly. I've not had a problem with posts either
