legacy projector headlight

No-one else has replied to you, bo, so I'll give you my two cents worth ....
Can't comment on the 98-99 year cars, but my Japanese-spec '96 Legacy RS-B (the saloon/sedan version of the GT-B) has projector headlamps for the dipped beam, using H1 bulbs, and normal reflector headlamps for full beam, using H3 bulbs. These are far superior to the H4 headlamps which were on my previous UK-spec Legacy 4CAM. Because there are four bulbs providing the light (2 x H1+H3) rather than two (H4 only), the light is significantly better. Uprating to Xenon (same wattage, but 30% brighter) is a further improvement without touching the original wiring. I'm not qualified to say whether the existing wiring would cope with higher-wattage bulbs - you'd need to seek the advice of an auto electrician, if you don't have the knowledge yourself. The fog lamps (below the headlamps, next to the turning lamps) are also projector lamps, using H1 bulbs. With everything on, it turns night into day!
Regards,
Brian

Hi Brian,
Thanks for your reply.
I didn't know that there is already a projector headlight for Legacy back in 1996. Do you know how much is the dealer selling the replacement headlight??
BTW, you are in UK, right?? I will travel to UK later this year, maybe I can pick one up.
One more question, I guess all the Europe car has the side-marker, right?? I want one on my car too

I have no knowledge of the Legacy lighting system, but off the top of my head, do check the beam cut-off alignment as UK specs are for cars driving on the "wrong" side of the road. You'll need the Continental specs one if there is a difference.

bo550,
Yes, I'm in the UK. However, the UK-spec Legacy never got the projector headlamps, only the H4 ones, so no UK dealers will be able to supply them. You'll need to find a source in Japan - maybe others on the BBS can help with a contact?
I'm not sure what you mean by a "side-marker", but if that's an indicator repeater on the front wing, then yes, the UK cars have them just behind the wheel arch. A UK dealer should be able to supply these OK.
