I can't seem to get my turbo timer to work correctly,

I have just bought the car and it seems operational It's a fet 206 turbo timer.

I was told to turn it on when entering the car and set to manual then start the car and make your trip. but when i get there i turn the key to switch the engine off and there is no idiling time added, the engine switches off. When i restart the engine to guestimate the idiling time required the turbo timer then starts to count down.

can anybody help? is it broke or am i just stupid.

make sure that the hand brake has been set most will need the handbrake on to let the timer work
