Replacing Headlight Bulb
#1
This may be a really stupid question but here goes . . . .
The drivers side headlight bulb has gone in MY97. I have new bulb. Tried to remove old bulb last night (visibility wasn't great) Could I get it to move ???? No No No
Any tips on what should be removed first as I don't want to break the headlight trying to get this out. There seems to be rubber covers on the back and I couldn't get round these.
I did give up fairly quickly as it was very dark and cold

Assuming the MY97 is the same as the MY98......
1. Remove airbox feed pipe - 1 x 10m bolt IIRC.
2. Pull off connector from rear of bulb - if its stuck, try a bit of WD40.
3. Remove rubber boot - grasp at the top and pull towards the rear of the car.
4. Undo spring clip, by squeezing the two prongs together to unclip, then rotate downwards out of the way - its hinged at the bottom.
5. Remove bulb, which should now be loose.
6. Refit new bulb, making sure its the right way round ie. one tab at the top, two tabs angled towards the bottom.
7. Refit spring clip, again by squeezing together and hooking under the rim of the bulb holder.
8. Replace rubber boot - look for the 'TOP' mark which is uppermost.
9. Refit connector.
10. Refit airbox feed pipe.
Job done, hope this helps.

Thanks for that Tony,
Judging by what you have said I think it is the connector that is stuck. This has a rubber cover on as well which is round about 1 1/2 inches across ?? So I just need to pull this really hard then it will be obvious what to do.
I will try the WD40 tonight.
Thanks again

It sounds like the connector or the bulb spades have corroded and fused together - this happened to an indicator bulb I had. Try the WD40 and lots of wiggling (the bulb & connector, not you) to try and ease them apart.
I wouldn't suggest levering with a screwdriver, but I don't think you can do any damage pulling by hand. If you still can't do it, you could try some easing fluid (for want of a better decsription) - I used to use some stuff called PlusGas on my bike years ago for freeing up seized bolts.
Good luck.

stick in there - mine was the same, eventually came out with a bit of persuasion!
I just pulled as hard as I could (fnar fnar!). Just be sure you pull it straight back (ooo-er) to avoid snapping anything.
I'll get me coat...
