The speedo of my '98 WRX import packed up yesterday and with it the digital mileage display. Could this a simple fuse fix (where would I find it?) or could it be something else? Many thanks in anticipation - Mike

yep - and the engine stutters around 4,500 rpm. I posted a thread on the "Engine" forum and the responses seem to indicate that I will either need a new speedo or cable. Any ideas how I could find out the best approach? - many thanks

Red face

Check the plugs/wiring coming out the top of the gearbox (under the intercooler)
If they are all tight and in good cond. check the plugs to the back of the speedo housing (one on each end and a little one in the middle).

My mate had this. It seems the engine goes into safe mode on some occasions when it has no speed signal, that explains the stuttering. His problem was with the pulse generator sensor thingy on the top of the gearbox. The bit in the sensor that mated to the shaft in the gearbox was worn so it had come out of mesh. When he took the sensor off and turned it by hand it worked but on the car it wouldn't. New sensor cured it.
