In an idle moment I was browsing the owners manual this weekend and noticed the Australians get their indicators on the right side.

Does anyone know if the parts can be sourced from the UK to replace the standard UK "wrong side" bits to get the indicator stalk where it belongs (IMO).

Do I get weird mod question of the day?

My Jap spec MY99 dash has the stalk on the right whereas the Uk cars have it on the left. It is supposed to be the same hand as the gearchange.

I looked at changing to the Uk side but I would need both salks and a differeent cancelleor for behind the steering wheel.

If that makes sense.

Hol,

Silly of me to forget about the canceler, that would probably be the most tedious bit to change.

Why you say "should be on the gear stick side" if the Japanese imports aren't? My previous car (Celica) had the indicators on the right hand side and plenty of British cars used to. I always assumed that the indicator stalk was on the left because most cars are built for left hand drive.

Question

humm.... not sure what is the right side or the wrong side you're talking about!

all uk cars have them on the RIGHT (i.e. nearest the door) up until the MY99 IIRC, at which point there are on the LEFT , as most other european cars.

Jap specs may be different - but not that I've noticed - all I know is that the whole UK dash is a 100% mirror image of the JAP spec dash !

I suppose 'right' and 'wrong' are a matter of taste, lets just say I prefer the indicator stalk to be on the door side, i.e. righthand side in a rhd car. I have an MY99 but I am fairly sure that an MY98 I test drove had the indicator on the left as well.

I still think that the stalk is on the left because most european cars are lhd.

Nothing to do with Europe or LHD as the Japanese drive on the same side as us and have the same stalk arrangement.

I know some Japanese and British cars had the indicator on the righthand side because I have owned and driven a few of them over the last 20 years, it has just become increasingly rare to find one.

I prefer RHI as this lets you indicate/cancel while changing gear, I guess I must be unique in this preference.
